It's official now so can undo that zippy mouth. :smile2: Here's more on the story:

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/11/29/under-the-dome-cbs/

Although Steve is listed as an executive producer, I don't know yet how much, if any, hands-on he'll have with the series.

This should be interesting. Stacy Snider is no slouch when it comes to producing stuff and getting good names attached.
Any word yet on who's being sought?
(Nick Searcy for Big Jim.) (Just a thought.)
Who's casting?

Woo hoo! I'm excited! :-)

Mrs. Moderator, it's not quite clear to me, but this will be a mini-series like Bag of Bones, or a tv series with seasons, like Haven?

It's going to be a series, not a mini-series (that was the original plan). It's currently slated for 13 episodes.

Thank you! I thought 13 episodes could be enough, it seems they're adapting page after page if they're aiming a full series...

Perhaps I should add this to my to-read list. I haven't read it yet, but was hoping for a DT re-read. And also a Hobbit/LOTR reread. (And some of Tolkein's other work) I kinda want to read the Hunger Games too, I might squeeze that in sometime.

Sounds like the ending will be changed from the book (a weak point IMO) to open it up for a second season. Not my fav. book. (Cooked politicians and crooked "so called" Christians. Wish SK would write an honest genuine Christian sometime. Maybe he just has not encountered one to give him a good reference.) UTD will never replace The Stand as my fav stand alone book. But it will be interesting to see how the series works.

You know what, with all the sK stuff coming out next year, if the world ends December 21, there's gonna be some really pissed off anti-Mayan constantly reading zombies around here.

It's kind of a long book. Perhaps it should get nineteen episodes.

I'm so glad to hear about this!!! Will certainly follow the series. Can't wait to hear from casting. Steve's stories on TV and movies always had great cast to portray his characters. :smile2:

Any new adaptation of a Sai King story is very welcome and something to look forward to, although I find the following quote from the press release a little worrying:

"Fans of the novel shouldn’t expect an exact retelling of the same story. Last we heard, writer Brian K. Vaughan’s (Lost) script for Dome was wisely using the novel’s setup as a launch pad for its own TV-format-friendly version of the story and might even lay the groundwork for a different outcome than the novel’s ending. Also, the CBS version is definitely a series, not a mini-series, with a finale episode that will leave the story open for more seasons.":n:

I have no problem with the TV show being different from the novel...if they keep the same basic premise and have good strong characters with good performances, they can tinker with the storyline all they want. It will keep the show unpredictable for people who have already read it. Many people thought the original ending was a bit weak anyway. This has potential to be good because it has King's DNA running through it, but I'm not averse to alternate interpretations, provided the quality is there.

The can't change the end for Chester's Mill. What would be OK is dropping a dome on another town (maybe in Arizona or Detroit) before fading to black.

I hope they do justice to the more shall we say graphic parts, but being CBS,well,I dunno..was hopin maybe HBO or AMC,but beggars can't be choosers..oh well just glad it is getting done..:smile2:

At least with CBS, unlike HBO, it doesn't require special programming to watch it. The downside is not having the creative freedom that a non-network station does.

I am happy that this is being made. I hope that they go in a different way with the ending. I loved the book. The end wasn't very satisfying to me though.

I look forward to the series. I'm kind of happy it is CBS. I am frugal and don't have cable.

Quite understandable,I cancelled Hbo after the first season of game of thrones..not saying they would be sure to do it better, just maybe more budget, maybe better, but no assurances of course..would have scraped together the nickels if hbo got it,just hoping it can be done well on cbs,not a real big fan of anything I have seen on those lately..

Why must 'they' make changes to what is an outstanding novel? We aren't going to tune in to something that is 'loosely based' on a book King wrote. That's like saying that they're making a movie based on Charles Dickens 'Great Expectations' and filming a movie about a phlegm-filled pregnant woman who hobbles around 19th century London while hacking up a lung (see what I did there???)!!!! (and I own the copyright on THAT idea, although I will sell it to Jennifer Saunders & Dawn French if they want to use it! ) I'm getting the sense that King doesn't care for ABC anymore, since the newer TV adaptions haven't been with them, whereas in the past all of them were.........

Speak for yourself.

I loved the novel, but there is plenty of room for improvement in certain aspects of the story. Maybe the series will manage to make improvements, and maybe it won't, but I'll definitely be giving it the opportunity.

...only if you are going to be rude about it...they spoke their feelings, whether they used the Third Person by accident, or were acting as a light-hearted "spokesperson" for those of like minds...yours is not the end all and be all opinion here, nor is theirs...nowhere was it implied that you were being swept away against your will to be thrown upon the shores of their thoughts, and theirs only...accept it for what it was, a simple response-because there was no need to come off as borderline insolent...

Do you spend your entire day fighting other people's fights for them online? If there's good money in that work, let me know; I'd love to fill out an application to be an E-Knight.

This all started because one person said (lightheartedly, but in the "all of us present here" sense of things) "We aren't going to tune in." I responded, also lightheartedly, "Speak for yourself," as a means of indicating that I was not part of the group in that regard. This is simlar to a situation in which a hypothetical person in a group of twenty other hypothetical people might say, "We all want to go and dig and ditch, so please give us shovels." Then I say, "Speak for yourself," and move away from that person, so that nobody thinks I want to go and dig a ditch. It doesn't mean I've crept up behind that person and slit her throat. Hey, if she wants to go and dig a ditch, that's her business; I'm happy to let her do it.

Don't be volunteering me for something I ain't into, is all I'm saying. Maybe next time, say "I'd like to go dig a dig," as opposed to "We'd like to go dig a ditch."

I'm sure the poster you were defending appreciates your efforts, though. Huzzah!

...no more than you spend yours being "lighthearted"...the nuance of your amusing banter must have been lost in the brilliance of your wit...I only hope someday, that I can grow up to be as wonderful as you...that is the day I say "huzzah" as well, until then I'll continue to try to mend the broken rungs of my DNA ladder and admire the totality of you from afar...now having returned the snark whole-heartedly, you sir need to understand that I will unabashedly and unashamedly defend ANY of my friends on this Board that I feel have been wronged...and will do so till the day I die, whether you approve of such actions or not...enjoy the rest of your life Ebenezer...

Personally, I really hope that this series will be wonderful.......I have my doubts.
I do not want to tune for a version of Lost, with the characters and setting of UTD. I'll give it 3 episodes, which is what I give any new series, and then if I'm not happy, I won't tune in.
So, while I'm excited that UTD will be a series, I'm worried about it being in the hands of producers who like a certain formula, and may not understand the story.

Sometimes, digging a ditch is more appealing than being disappointed and frustrated.......it's also very good exercise.....good for the abs.
Of course, I'm speaking only for myself ♥

Maybe this news is what I need 2 get back into it, will have to try and find where I was now and go back a few pages 2 recap

They'll approach John Goodman to be Big Jim, but he's probably tied up with 70mm professional commitments.

I'm guessing they'll also approach Tim Daly to play Barbie, since Daly's already King-friendly and is now off "Private Practice".
Jake Busey and Owen Wilson for Carter Thibodeaux and Frank, but neither of them have a history of doing TV.

They'll tap someone like Sally Field or Jean Smart to play Rose....and they'll probably ask Felicity Huffmann to play Julia Shumway, if she hasn't already been snapped up by another network.

Interesting to think of all the possibilities. :)

Tim Daly is at least two decades too old to play Dale; and probably it's more like three.

Ryan Gosling would be my choice, but there's no way he's doing network television at this point.

I was disappointed with the Superbowl teaser. Someone at CBS said, "Let's show the cover of the book for ten seconds?" All they needed was a glass window, a trained bird, and some fake blood. 1. Show the bird flying. 2. Train the bird to fly into the window. 3. Add blood.
