This is so wrong on so many levels. First off the CEO is full of marshmallows. Hostess never once tried to restructure to keep things going. Filing bankruptcy is not restructuring. They're selling very unhealthy food stuff in a very health conscious world without trying to "fit in" and make a few changes. It is so easy for CEOs to blame unions for their problems. This is like Congress and the POTUS - if you can't work together to solve problems you're doomed to fail.

Forget the twinkies, I'm hoarding the Ding Dongs. Is it just me or did they taste better when they came wrapped in aluminum foil?

I won't be sorry to see them go. I always thought they were pretty gross.

Creme-filled Krispy Kreme doughnuts are the way to go if you want creme.

Oh yum, granulated brown concrete and milk:zip:.

But if you drizzle on some honey, add the milk, and nuke them for a minute or two--just enough so they have a little crunch and aren't complete mush, you've got something that's tasty (yeah, yeah it probably has more to do with the honey than the Grape Nuts if we're going to be honest here) and warms your belly on a cold winter day. A nice change from oatmeal every so often. :smile2:

Yes, nuked grape nuts are good. I'm amazed at how much better they are that way.

Honey sounds good, don't know why I ain't never tried that.
When I was a kiddo about to walk miles in the blustery winter to school (oh yes oh yes I did, yeah okay maybe only a couple miles, but still:biggrin2:...and with a freakin' trombone for a year too for Tommy Dorsey's sake:oops:), Mama would sometimes make me hot GrapeNuts with brown sugar, cinnamon, toasted pecans, and with a dollop of Half & Half on top, but only because she loved me so very much:love:.
Then she'd shove me out the door into the cold whilst tellin' me to quit snivlein' and whinin' like a little sissy boy, 'cause there was a kid somewhere in China that would love to eat a deeelicious bowl of anything, and then have to walk just a little ways in the cold to be able to even go to a school, much less with a trombone...yeah gee whiz, guess I shoulda been justa tad ashamed o' me ungrateful snotty self, huh:blush:?
Well I got over it I did I did, 'cause now, while I might just try some hot GrapeNuts with honey one day, y'all can just bet your sweet bippies you ain't never gonna ever catch me walkin' anywhere, anytime, with no freakin' trombone ever again, and I could give a good hoot up the holler to whomever in China wants to take a freezin' yo' azzzzz off long walk with one, even after a good hot breakfast:rolleyes:.

Oh, yum. Never heard of Grape Nuts served that way, PatintheHat, but think I'm going to have to try it because it sounds deeeee-lish! Although I was thinking sugared walnuts might be pretty good instead of the pecans. After all, we weren't saying you have to go the full Euell Gibbons healthy here--this was about tasting good. :biggrin2:

Scott, give this to the prison cooks. I found a recipe for grape nuts meat loaf:biggrin2: This could be the breakfast version of prison loaf.

1/2 Cup Grape Nuts Cereal
1/2 Cup hot water
1 Lb ground beef
1 egg slightly beaten
1/3 onion, chopped
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
dash of black pepper
dash of garlic powder
1/4 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce or ketchup

Mix the Grape Nuts cereal with the hot water and let stand 2 minutes to absorb the water. Drain off excess water if still soupy.
Mix beef, Grape Nuts, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion, garlic, salt and pepper thoroughly. Shape loaf in a greased pan/baking dish.
Top with the BBQ sauce or ketchup and bake at 350 for one hour.

Hot cereal? Malt-O-Meal, people.

Cold Grape Nuts. Euell was right. It's awesome with honey or some kind of sweetener on it.

And the ultimate [Southern] replacement(s) for Anything Hostess:

Moon Pies and Goo Goo Clusters. Look 'em up.

My apologies. The twinkies thing might be my fault. Two days before this hit the news I phoned them. I was asking questions about their allergy labelling. Turns out some of their products are produced in facilities free of my allergens....but they chose not to include "may contain" on the labels of at risk product. The CSR was willing to tell me what was safe, but I was not willing to try to keep track of it....and what if they move stuff from one facility to another?

So, I ended the call saying something along the lines of being disappointed when a company is SO BIG they can just brush aside a lot of potential customers and if they ever decide they want to make more sales, just improve their labelling.

so....I didn't mean to curse them. :dunno: But, I must admit, the timing DID make me laugh.
