Greetings, I am back. While in prison (for unpaid fines) in Germany I was able to read four Stephen King novels in English (mother language Canadian) from the prison library. Needful Things was pretty cool. It reads like a short story in long novel (Roman as they say in German) form. I really like the concept of the Shop's owner with the forefinger being longer than the middle finger. Pointing fingers and labelling people was always naughty, grandma said, however, perhaps it is not so bad having a forefinger longer than the middle finger because then the middle finger cannot be used to say F-off from a distance. A cool accent, in my opinion. Anyone else?

...it's also helpful when you don't have a monkey stuck to aforementioned digit....

Yeah, I don't know if there was intentional symbolism there or if it was just a way to make Mr. Gaunt seem even more creepy.

Don't know if it was what Sai King was referring to but I found this info on a palmistry website.

A long index finger indicates a natural leader.

A short middle finger indicates a free spirit who marches to the beat of their own drum. Alternative paths seem highly attractive.

I also read this:

According to some myths, skin-changers have extraordinarily long forefingers.

Don't know if this helps at all but it was interesting.

Ha! We were just talking about this at work last night! Someone mentioned that it's the thumb in particular that's the indicator.

And yeah, we spent the night looking at people's hands. :biggrin2:

I always remember one of my friends saying years ago that when he tried to type "Champ" in predictive text it always came up as Chaos

I think it's the details that makes it creepy. Like SK (in Danse Macbre...I think) says about how there are some places where the angles in a triangle don't add up to 180 degrees. Those minor things that freak us out.
