I started this book a few days ago (having finished Dead Zone before starting Cell, which I absolutely loved!) But Cell is somehow not holding my interest as much as I hoped for
Maybe it's the fact that it deals with zombies (let's be honest, zombies and vampires are old news) Or maybe it's the fact that it sort of reminds me of a cheap knockoff of The Stand (Survivors of a zombie apocalypse gather together to fight evil)
Please tell me it gets better. I don't want to leave a King novel unread on my shelf.
Thanks! and Happy Reading!

It's very different than the Stand. And yes, zombies have been around forever but so has everything. And please note that this came out before this intense zombie craze.
Keep reading. It's a good one.

It took me two tries to read Cell. The first time I didn't make it through the first 100 pages. I recently picked it up again and couldn't put it down!!!

Keep reading, twist and turns are just around the corner. The more you read, the better it gets.

I read this one too, and I did stick it out until the end. I found it just okay. Just could not connect with the characters at all. But keep reading anyway. You may find something in it that I didn't.

Keep reading Cell. If you keep reading you will solve this very important equation "Kashwak=NOFO". It might save your life, if the damn zombie hordes ever get to your part of the country.:)

Funny, I had the same thing happen when I first got Cell. I got a couple chapters in, and traded it for Duma Key, both of which I'd just purchased from the used book store. When I ran out of unread King books, I picked up Cell again. It is a very good story with a couple of interesting surprises.

Sometimes you just need to be in the right mood to read some books...same for some movies imho

CCAL, you are so right.
I picked it up again and I was slowly getting into it but the mood was just not right. I recently finished The Stand and since it is still fresh in my mind, I am guessing I needed a different type of story. Something other than an apocalyptic/ end of humanity theme.
So what I did was, I set Cell aside for another time, picked up Gerald's Game and finished it in less than 2 days. :wink2:

I had the same problem of getting into an SK book when I started to read Under the Dome. I made it through the first half 50 pages at a time, but then one day I couldn't stop reading and went through the second half in a few hours!

...and actually it's not that much about zombies as we know them !! I hate science fiction movies and books (aliens and vampires are not my item anyways), its more like people having a brainwash , going back to how people were million years ago , eating flesh , with no speech and trying to fight for what they want to own ! at lest in the beginning its smt like that ! :)
hope you had already read it . I liked it.

I just finished, wasnt'y intrested in it when it first came out. But I try to read all King's books. This one is o.k. Not one I'd read again, and I do read King's books more then once. Not sure if it's the zombie thing or the ending that didn't catch me. But glad I did ready. Glad I finished, had to know what happened at the end.

Just started this one for the first time (yeah, I still haven't read it yet), and it's honestly boring me to death.... Argh.

It does get more interesting, but also do not remember it being that boring in the beginning. I was traveling a lot in the time I read it, and having an SK book in my hands is greatly preferable to the endless people watching in the airport.

I trudged on, and I'm liking it much more the deeper I get into the story...

I'm so surprised that so many found it boring, or hard to get into... It's one of my favourites!

I finished this one two or three days ago...big BLECK!!! I hated it! I have found stuff to like about every other SK book I've read thus far, but this one didn't do it for me. It was interesting for a while, but then I just couldn't focus on it anymore, and it was a chore to get to the end. If you like it, that's fine. I LOVE Lisey's and Tommyknockers, both of which I know are not liked by the vast majority (not necessarily on here, but in general). The characters didn't seem...REAL...to me, the ending was lacking, and it (I know this has been said twenty billion times before) reminded me of The Stand a little TOO much.
I hope this hasn't come across as a tantrum, because I didn't mean it like that. I was just sincerely disappointed with this one. Maybe a re-read a year or two down the road will change my opinion...

I Loved it, it was hard to start out at first, but you discover, the crazies aren't just zombies. I read it in two days, my only complaint was the ending, but, it was a great book. Yeah it had similarities to The Stand, that's it, it didn't mirror any traditional zombie thriller, or Kings other works.
