He is a great person. One of my favorite stories about him was from when he was shooting the last Pirates movie, and a little girl wrote him a letter from school. The class assignment was on learning how to write proper letters, and he showed up at her school unannounced dressed up as Capt. Jack after receiving the letter and spent some time with her and her classmates...what a memory he gave that little girl and all the other kids in the class!

Yep!! I should have put in my first post that the little girl had addressed her letter to Capt. Jack and was asking for mutiny advice against her teacher. So that was why he went to the school dressed in character. Very heartwarming and sweet, I thought.

Wow what a nice thing to do! Advice on mutiny......that is too cute!! I'll bet he gave the little one some great pointers!!

Can watch "Secret Window" over and over. King plus Depp =
Nick of Time
Sleepy Hollow
Finding Neverland
From Hell
I prefer to watch him when he's acting like a semi-normal human being and not all covered in makeup.
P.S. @Srbo-Yes, I have to admit, I smiled when I saw the name of your thread and very quickly clicked on it to see if you included any pics!

Love Depp. Next to Eastwood and Denzel he's my favorite actor.
Blow - he blew me away with his performance. Even George Jung said Johnny came to visit 3 times a week to get the part down right. When he left George said that "he walked like me, he talked like me, he even smoked a cigarette like me."
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - another epic performance. Depp even lived with Hunter S. Thompson in his basement for a short period and really immersed himself in the role.
Secret Window - was pretty good as well but not as good as the two mentioned above.
Some others I enjoyed:
Sleepy Hollow
Pirates of the Caribbean
Sweeney Todd
Corpse Bride
Rango
and I'm going to see Dark Shadows in the near future

...even though I still think the costuming/make-up for his role as Tonto in "The Lone Ranger" is ludicrous, I feel he will play the role with honor-and not disgrace the pride nor spirit of the Native Americans...this boy's got heart-and in this day and age, stands out from the posers as a "real deal" Hollywood hero...

I think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread! I have watched a lot of his movies and find it hard to pick a favourite. If I had to choose one that stands out for me, it would be the first one I saw which was Benny and Joon. He was so adorable in that role, sigh...

I love Johnny Depp, I liked his performance in Secret Window as well. He's a great actor. If you see Johnny Depp among the cast of a movie, you can expect to see a brilliant performance. Even though I did not like Dark Shadows, I still enjoyed seeing Johnny Depp on the screen. I also liked Edward Scissorhands, Sweeny Todd, Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland - these are all great movies and he is the star.

Yes, Johnny Depp has a cameo in 21 Jump Street, the movie. He once again plays Tom Hanson. He is one of the undercover cops, who was part of the biker gang, he and his partner are shot dead in the hotel room. He was in the movie a few times in the biker scenes, but obviously unrecognisable as Depp until he "revealed" himself and blew his cover. :smile2:

I actually remember this as it was in London. It was reported on our local news.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1318516/Johnny-Depps-surprise-visit-London-primary-school-Captain-Jack-Sparrow.html
My earliest memory of him was probably in Edward Scissorhands. Mr Depp seems to work well with Tim Burton as he has starred in a few of his films. Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow and of course the before mentioned Edward Scissorhands, without checking I think he also did a voice for one of Burton's Animated films, The Corpse Bride.
I like him, I like the Pirate Films.
Thankfully my wife doesn't drool over him too much, she prefers Mr Pitt!

I really dig things like "The Ninth Gate," and Depp made what could otherwise have been an Art Flop very good. Maybe it was an art flop. I've stopped paying attention to "how many stars" something gets.
There was one scene where Depp was listening to a phone call from actor Frank Langella that was really, really, really, really, really scary...all props to Langella for that scene. That was a peepants phone call. Depp does a perfect "deer-in-the-headlights" with a touch of humor.

Never met a J.D. film I didn't enjoy. I've suffered through the entire Pirate series just to watch him do his scene-stealing Keith Richards impressions. I even gave Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street a whorl and was shocked and delighted to enjoy it. It is a gory musical... WTH, right?... but it was oddly hilarious. Hearing him sing was a pleasure and a novelty and when he is combined with Helana Bonham Carter they are just two peas in a pod.
Chocolat
Sleepy Hollow
Don Juan
Public Enemies
Edward Scissorhands
Donnie Brasco!
I just remembered one that peed me off... The Libertine. Felt like a "bait and switch". The title indicated it would be sexier.
Has anyone seen The Rum Diary? And? I haven't seen it yet and I heard it bombed. I felt badly for him because I read that that one was close to his heart.

Great actor, one of my favorites. Love Johnny in Benny & Joon. Hilarious in Sleepy Hollow. And he and Leo DiCaprio are fantastic in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
And only Johnny could make a crazed killer barber seem sexy and make the girls swoon. I seen Sweeney Todd a few times when it was at the theater. Probably my favorite film of Johnny's.

I beg to differ! Never got the attraction at all, at all! But then I fancy Gene Hackman in The Conversation so that shows you how weird I am.
Think his best movies are Edward Scissorhands and Fear & Loathing. The Pirates of the Caribbean thing has just gone wayy too far.

If you like Tim Burton and vintage Bela Lugosi stuff, you really ought to check out Ed Wood. Martin Landau was spot-on playing Lugosi, and Depp was hilarious as Wood. Sarah Jessica Parker has a good role in it as well.

The Libertine p*ssed me off, too. It was filmed completely with natural light (they bought over 50,000 candles for the nighttime scenes - crazy huge budget for candles alone) and had to stop one-third of the way into filming to raise more money for the costs because of a production loophole in the U.K. when the actors' and directors' unions underwent contractual changes. Their path to a wrap was frought with challenges, and kudos to them for even finishing the project.....but none for the final cut. It's a stinker in virtually every way. Don't believe the one IMDB review - it's a wretched movie and I turned it off half-way through, even though I'm a big fan of Depp.

I attempted to watch "The Rum Diary" last weekend and was hugely disappointed. It's the first Depp movie I've ever switched off before the halfway mark. By that point I decided I'd seen enough of Johnny's face to keep me satisfied, and continuing with the remainder of the movie just wasn't worth it.

One of the coolest actor there is. I remember once I read an article that stated that because of the diversity of characters he played he was popular on young and older woman. The other day I was watching Secret Window and when at the end a door opens and we see him with hat and that look in his eye. Oh my.... I think only him could have pulled the effect it had on me.

Hi Ally - I just want to say how sorry I am to have upset you. That was not meant as a "veiled insult" and I hope you will accept my sincere apology on this one (and hopefully whoever is "parked" will read this too). I just picked the first two unusual locations that came to mind. I actually think it is funny or clever to put something like that rather than your actual location. So - again - my gaff. I guess it is the literary equivalent of blurting something out without thinking. I have been wanting to apologize all weekend and had to wait for the board to open on Monday morning. p.s. where is the smiley with the red face? According to my information the reason Vanessa Paradis rid herself and the kids of Depp (the German word for fool, not my fault), was because he secretly but legally married Avril Lavigne while extremely high, as he claimed. Depp apologized and claims to have divorced her but, continued his obssession for Avril. Vanessa threw him out finally. Regardless or not if they divorced, women keep their new married last names. Avril is french for April, Depp is German for fool. That means the only reason they refuse to go public is because she now is named, in English, April Fool. My data could be in error but, I believe not. No disrespect, just stating the facts as I have them.

My other brother, Freddie, asked me to add this...During the filming of the Pirates of the Carribean films Johnny Depp hired a twenty man team to guard him 24/7 from any insects or spiders that may appear so they do not get near him. This is from a guy that owns his own island there. According to my sources there are several AfricanAmerican Killer Bee Queens breeding on that island.
Do you think Depp has an emergency telephone number there?

I just wanted to apologize for my derogatory comments about Johnny Depp. I do have many reasons to be angry with Johnny but, it takes two to tango plus, it is all in the past now and both of them have learned the hard way so, why add to the punishment rendered by fate. Perhaps I can come up with a script that fits Tim Burton and Johnny and, I will just sell it to them for one zillion dollars, and then all is good. lol..
