If we ask leading questions will we be met with answers or good ole zippy??
For example, could the "possibly" be a book with a one word title beginning with J? :y:

I don't think he's gonna bring another book to us this year! It's not like back in the day when you would get 2 or 3 books a year from him. Most likely around this time next year and for joyland maybe very late next year or 2014.

Uncle Stevie will publish another book this year because I'm going to do an Andy Dufresne and send him begging letters, every week. Many, many letters until he--or Ms Mod--caves under the pressure of my demands. Or until the restraining order kicks in. Whichever.

Just got the okay from Scribner to release the publication date for Doctor Sleep. It is tentatively set for January 15, 2013. Here's the catalog copy:
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.
On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the “steam” that children with the “shining” produce when they are slowly tortured to death.
Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant “shining” power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”
Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

My guess is it will be a simultaneous release in the UK as it has been with recent releases, but will have to check with Hodder to confirm.

 I wish he would give us 3 books a year like in the old days. He hasn't released more than one book a year since 2004 with DT6 and DT7. Anyway I really hope it does come out on that day miss mod gave us. I hope it isn't pushed back!

If you take a look at the list of novels on this page (http://www.stephenking.com/library/novel/index_old-new.html) (if you click on the Date column, it will sort them by year of publication), having 3 books published in one year only happened once back in 1987. There have been some years (especially when he was also publishing as Richard Bachman), when there have been two books out in the same year and here's what's come out since 2004:
Cell and Lisey's Story both came out in 2006
Duma Key and Just After Sunset came out in 2008

The original announcement of Doctor Sleep for January has had to be revised so we don't yet have the actual release date for that yet. It's still at least tentatively planned for 2013 but the month is in question. Just don't want you to be counting on it being in the first half of 2013.

Nice taste of Dr. Sleep at the end of the Wind Through the Keyhole audiobook. I tried squeezing on the disc to make more come out but it didn't work. So I guess I'll have to wait. When ever it comes out it will be well worth the wait.

Steve needs more time for editing as he doesn't feel it's anywhere near ready for publication. He has a number of projects he's working on so would not be able to accomplish that within the deadline they would need in order to get it ready for production for a January release.

Have been playing phone tag with Steve's foreign rights agent so still don't have a final answer for you, however, it is more likely that this is old information from when it was first thought that Doctor Sleep might be coming out in January in the US. That is one reason why we don't post every single thing that is out there on the internet about Stephen just to be the first ones to have it on-line. It creates a lot of confusion for fans and extra work for me. I don't have as much of a problem with doing that when the change happens after we have announced something that we legitimately thought to be accurate but then due to unforeseen circumstances have to change it. That happens but we try to hold off until we have the final word so that you can count on the information you get on this site to be accurate. We may not always be the first to announce, but you've got a lot better chance at knowing that what you read here is something you can count on.

If Doctor Sleep was originally set to go in January 2013, and Mr. King read portions of it aloud at his appearances and included a large excerpt with the audiobook of The Wind Through the Keyhole, it sounds as though the delay shouldn't be that long. Should we expect it still during the winter of 2013? Because then Joyland comes out a few months later.

Highly unlikely, but the definitive date has not been set at this time. It's still in the editing process and Steve does not feel it's ready to go yet. The date for Joyland is set as June 2013 regardless of when Doctor Sleep comes out.

It will be the first release of the book and the format will be hardcover, not paperback. I don't know yet if the ebook will be a simultaneous publication.
