View Full Version : How many of us are Inked?

momone53

Since I started a thread last week about my new DT tattoo; it raised my curosity. How many of us have ink? How many tats do you have? What is your favorite? And finally, do you plan on getting more.

I will start:
Yes I am inked.
I have three tats: a dove and rainbow on my right hip; a celtic tree of life on my left shoulder and the DT one on my right upper arm. (the DT one is the newest and is not yet complete)
The Dark Tower is my absolute favorite (so far!)
I plan on getting at least one more; and I don't know after that.

And may you have twice the number.

I don't have any, but I really, really want one.

A friend of mine said she would do the sketch, so I am waiting on that. And the money- these little pieces of decoration are expensive!

I have two. One big one in a not so grandmotherly place. I'll chalk that one up to the "heck with it I'm not too old for a tattoo" syndrome. But I do love it, it makes me feel naughty... The other I got a couple of years ago. It's on my ankle. I did the design then the tattoo artist refined it for me. It's my husband and my initials intertwined with a couple of little red hearts floating near. I want to add fireworks shooting out of the top...

I don't have any...but I've been THINKING about getting one for a few years now. Does that count??? The only tattoo I would get would be Tower related...I've thought about 19 or Ka...but I love the key, rose, door idea...but I don't know where I'd put it. I'd like to have it on my inner ankle, but my daughter (tattooed) says it would hurt way too much, and I'm not a big fan of pain, in fact, I try to avoid it...but it would be so cool...and my sister (ginknehpets) and I go on a "King" related vacation every year, and it would be really cool if I got one on our trip this year (shhhhhhh, don't tell my husband...)...

I know a quite a few people who do have tats-and for as many reasons as there are tattoos! I dont care-its not my skin, not my pain. BUT as a work of ART, I certainly fall guilty of appreciating it. I mean that. Both my sons have tats, much to my disapproval. However once they got past my disapproval, i realized it wasnt just a passing interest then i got on board for them. They do have beautiful tats. One is a wildlife lover so a buck with a gorgeous rack adorns his forearm. The other one is into computer games-warcraft? eeq? so they are great works of warlords & demons. as you can tell I'm not so much on the gaming cause I dont play it--cant afford to mostly ha. I like both their artwork tho, just cant remember ones cause he got his tat just before I had my stroke & thats gone to me now. Enjoy your tats, just remember a stranger might not remember your face but he'll certainly remember your tat! (is that a good thing??? if your in a police lineup probably not so much--that happens way too often!but it could be a good thing indeed!)

I have 4, got my first one when I ws 40! Then 3 more after that! None of them are King-related, but they all have a stars and moon theme. I would like to get another one, just trying to figure out where to put and, and to save up the $$! They are not cheap!! Lol :)

I have one tattoo.. though it's a bit cliche. My upper right arm has a double-strand of blue barbed wire, wrapped around it completely. For some strange reason, whenever someone sees it, or are told about it, they are always super surprised (perhaps even shocked) that I got one done!

Yes, I am happily inked. I have 2 tattoos. A red rose with a green stem and leaf on the inside of my right ankle, and another red rose with a green stem and leaf on my left shoulder blade. The tat on my ankle is my favorite because it was my first. Funny thing it used to be a VH tattoo with the wings, because my favorite band when I was 13 years old was Van Halen. By the time I was 18 I decided to have it made into a red rose. I don't plan on getting another anytime soon, but I'm sure I'll get at least 1 more in my lifetime.

I've only got one, it's around my ankle. It's a band of flowers with the breast cancer pink ribbon in the middle. Seriously toying with the idea of getting the KA symbol on my foot, or the Eld sigul. :cool2:

Mine are are easily covered if I don't want them shown. I can't wait til summer to show off the one on my upper arm to the folks here at work. They'll probably think I'm crazy. I got my first tattoo when I was 36 and never got another one until this year. I got the tree right around Christmas and now the DT one which is still in progress. I would probably not have gotten these two except for the fact that my son, who was 18 at the time, asked me if he could get one. It was one to honor his grandmother who recently passed away, so I said yes and bought it for him for Christmas. I liked the work that the artist did, and the rest as they say, is history.

And may you have twice the number.

Ankle tats are painful; as are ones over the ribs or backbone. Any place that doesn't have a good layer of fat or muscle can get painful. I know people who have them on the tops of there feet; every time I see them I cringe.

I don't have any, and most likely won't ever get one. Just my preference. That's partially because I try to give blood 2 or 3 times a year and I think if you get a tattoo you can't give blood for 2 years. Part of me would like to get one though.
Should I change my mind and decide to get one, it would probably be an Orthodox cross, as the church I'm in draws heavily from Orthodox theology.

This is my kind of thread!!! I love tattoos. I think I'm more addicted to the act of getting them than having them but it's good all around for me. I currently have 13, and I plan on getting many more (actually, I'll be getting rid of 3 to make room for something big that I have planned...unless they can be covered easily). I have a few swallows (yeah, yeah...) and shooting stars, one on each wrist. I have a band of stars on my forearm, a row of stars on my ear, a bat behind one ear and a part of my pet snake's pattern behind the other ear. I have a skull with fish fins on my neck/shoulder, a pirate skull (I'm into sailor Jerry) an octopus lady and a sinking ship on my upper arm. And the last one is a heart and cross that says '"Jebus" on my foot (no I'm not religious, but that one's a long story).

The next I have planned is some sort of filigree on my other ear just because it's quick and cheap and it will get me a fix. Then the big project will be started. Man...I need a job.

I have four tattoos. They are all girly-type things.:biggrin2: I have a butterfly on my upper back, a butterfly on my right hip, a perfume bottle w/ three butterflies for my boys on my right ankle, and flowers on my left thigh. The flowers are my favorite, and I don't consider that one finished yet. Maybe when I can save some money (Ha Ha) I'll get it added to. And yes!!!!! Tattoos can be very addictive!!!

I have eight and the only thing that stopped me from getting more was going on prednisone full-time to try to rescue the remainder of my health. I don't heal well anymore, so no more tats.

I have a pagan triple moon on my left wrist and a tribal sun on my right wrist. On my left forearm just below the elbow crease near where they draw my blood I have a tattoo in Russian that translates to 'Courage is mine.' On my right forearm just below the elbow crease, I have the constellation and astrological symbol for Taurus. On my right bicep, I have the German word 'Lebenslust' which means 'lust for life', and on the left bicep is the word 'Leidenschaft' which is German for 'passion'. Just below my left collarbone, I have the word in German 'Kokett' which means 'flirt' and it has three stars below it. On my left hip is the German word 'Kaffee' with a few coffee beans which probably doesn't need translation.

All of mine are done in black.

Three and counting. A blue rose on my right pec muscle, just under the collarbone. It's sort of King related, as any readers of BoB would know, but it's also an homage of sorts to Salvadore Dali, as it's a replica of his floating rose. By far my favorite tat! I also have a simple black Trinity on my left shoulder blade, and a badly beaten up Cross on my left hip. Once I've lost all my baby weight and am back in shape, I want to go in and get the poor thing re-touched. It was my first tat, and I still love it. I'd be thrilled to see it restored to its original glory!
I'd love to get more ink, but have to wait for the funds. I'm REALLY tempted to get the KA symbol or something... we shall see, I suppose.

Yes, I have two. One on my left breast of a Triple Goddess symbol and one inside my right ankle of a Hawaiian honu petroglyph. I would like to get 2 more, one I'm sure of the design, the other I'm still thinking about.

The ankle tat didn't really hurt at all, but it is a few inches above the actual ankle where there is more cushioning. But, I tell ya, that one on my breast HURT! And that has plenty of cushion. :dunno:

After a night of partying with my cousin the tattoo artist, I drunkenly decided to get a tat, and so we headed back to his parlor in the wee hours of the morning. Always being a fan of SK’s “IT,” I wanted some artwork to represent the work. My three-sheets-to-the-wind smartass cousin, being a fan of the Adams Family, thought he would take some liberties and have some fun at my expense. This is what I ended up getting. Never again will I get another tattoo!

That's funny, because the one I have on my back (right under my neck) didn't hurt at all, but the one I have also on my back, but a little below the waist hurt like heck... And that makes me think that the more flesh, bigger the pain is... but none hurt like the one on my ribs... I have the sentence "first comes smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire", and I had spasms in my leg because of the pain, while I was getting tattoed. Which made one of the letters blurry, but I will NOT re-touch it, NO WAY

Argh, okay, I'll try to describe it. It'll probably end up with you going "whaaat?"

I've got 2 daughters, named Lily and Olivia. Rather than put their names on me, I wanted something more subtle. So in a roughly 6 inch circle, a small scene of a cluster of surprise lilies (which are orange or salmon colored) with olive branches kinda gathered with them, like a bouquet (which are green and purple). I love art deco anything, so the color palette would be in those colors. A few of the petals and fronds from the lilies and a branch or two of the olive tree would go just outside the circle, so it's not so constrained. The flowers are more about shape than detail, and I don't want the olive branches to be overwhelming, just balanced. I think a background of yellow, but I go back and forth between that and blue. Or I'll wait and see what my friend comes up with... :smile2:

I have one tattoo. It is a black panther (green eyes) wrapped in circular tribal art (red) on the middle of my upper back. It is about 6-7 inches in diameter. I have to say, that did hurt. Especially right on the spine. My skin doesn't hold ink very well I guess. I have had it touched up two times and it still looks kind of faded. I had ideas for a few more tattoos but I am not sure if i will ever get them. I do like to see other people's artwork though.

Cool thread :)

I have 1 tatt and it took a very special set of circumstances for me to get it because I'm phobic of needles... I'd had general ideas about a tattoo I wanted since I was about 18 but never saw any design that fit and never met a tattoo artist I felt comfortable around (that's more about me not knowing them rather than anything they did wrong). I have a friend who is an amazing artists and works with all sorts of mediums: painting, drawing, sculpture, etc. A couple of years ago he started teaching himself to tattoo (by practising on himself and a willing drunken friend). As soon as he started I knew he would be the one to do it. Once he'd had plenty of practice and was doing it for money, I described my ideas to him over the phone, along with some colour ideas. He sketched something and sent it to me and it was perfect!

So in my 30th year on this planet I got my dream tattoo, on my back between my shoulder blades. It's a ying yang symbol (yellow/orange) in the place of the sun setting over the ocean. There are 2 dolphins, 1 swimming under the water and 1 jumping out of the water, forming a circle (like the Pisces fish swimming in opposite directions) around the sun. It's very colourful, has very little black in it, and looks more like a painting to me than a tattoo. And it didn't even hurt that much even though it took 3 and a half hours!

I am so pleased with the tattoo and the experience that I now have loads of ideas for more! I want one on the bottom half of my back that incorporates the chackras, with lots of colours, and possibly some flowers and other stuff. I want several DT/SK themed ones and thinking about how much it's all gonna cost I'm thinking I should keep these one's simple, like KA somewhere discrete but visible to me. The only negative thing I can think to say about the tattoo I have is that I cant see it without a mirror and some twisting!

momone53
January 25th, 2012, 08:13 AM
Spooky; that's the problem with back tattoos. You need a mirror to see them. Love the way yours sounds. Cost is always a consideration for me too. I had saved the money for the celtic tree and since my tattooist didn't charge as much as I thought he would; I decidend to have the DT one done. I had been thinking about ever since I read the Waste Lands last year, so I'm glad that I am able to get it done. I think after this, I want to get one more and it should be fairly simple; I want a cardinal on my right shoulder in honor of my mom who passed away; it was her favorite bird. After that, who knows?

And may you have twice the number.

So far I have 5 tattoos. It's taken me over 10 years to get them as they all have meanings to me but I will be adding to the 2 on my right arm, turning it into a sleeve over the next few years (as money allows).

I would like a DT tattoo but I'm not sure what exactly or where.

Hi all. Not been around for a while but want to rectify that. I currently have one tat on my right shoulder of a rat wearing a top hat smoking a cigarette. Had it done around 17 years ago not long after I met my wife. Can't remember why I picked it but I like it so that's the important thing to me. I plan to have a few more soon including a large one on my back (still thinking about what that will be) and I love em.

I am working on some ideas for a Roland/Dark Tower tattoo, but I have so many details I want to add, so my design is never final. Also, I originally wanted it on my calf, but now I am thinking about other placements - so who knows when I will get it done. Have found a great artist, though, so maybe I will just make a decision and get it done.

Ouch! No tattoos for me. There are some really beautiful ones out there and when I was a teenager I reallllyyy wanted to get one but everytime I had money I'd spend it on other stuff. Written across the heart in black ink is "Allison Amanda Eric", the names of my children. I live two blocks from a tattoo shop and I'm always so tempted to get another one every time I walk by.

I have a bird of paradise flying up my... leg. It's on the outside of my right calf. It is both beautiful and funny when you think about it. I'm going to one day, ummmm maybe this summer..... get one that is DT related. Probably one of the symbols in black. I'm thinking about putting it on the back of my neck.
Probably not too expensive either... I am talking myself into another tattoo instead of cleaning the fridge out. Procrastination rocks y'all! Thanks.

Three of them...
A Native American headpiece on my left shoulder.
Alice Cooper's signature on the right side of my chest (he signed in sharpie first, then I had it tattooed the next day).
The letters B$B (from Alice's album, Billion Dollar Babies) on the left side of my chest.

I have 4, 2 on each upper arm/bicep, and all done in prison. Left arm, bicep has a daemon's claw clutching a cross and the symbol for Big Boy's Toys, an antique car/hot rod restoration company (a smoking woodpecker kind of like Woody). Right arm, bicep has Garfield and a snake's head Reaper over Japanese Kanji meaning Redemption. The first and last ones described here symbolize the battle between Light and Dark inside me. The other two I just like.
2 Rules I have for getting tattoos=
1) Get something that means something to you.
2) Get something that you will never be embarrassed about or ashamed of later.

I am planning to get one last tattoo after much thought. That will be number nine. It'll be a memorial tattoo for someone.

The cap came off my sharpie and I didn't have my pocket protector in. Does that count?:biggrin2:

I have four tattoos. They are all girly-type things.:biggrin2: I have a butterfly on my upper back, a butterfly on my right hip, a perfume bottle w/ three butterflies for my boys on my right ankle, and flowers on my left thigh. The flowers are my favorite, and I don't consider that one finished yet. Maybe when I can save some money (Ha Ha) I'll get it added to. And yes!!!!! Tattoos can be very addictive!!!
Beautiful...love butterfly tattos :)

My husband should explain he was bored in art class, he blames the art teacher for leaving ink and sharp objects around for his hand tattoos:grinning:

I know what you mean! The only ink I ever get is when my pen leaks! I don't mind getting poked by a needle to donate blood but I am a chicken when it comes to tattoos

I want two tattoos. I've wanted to get the same tattoos for years.

I'm an artist, so I notice imperfections. There is only one shop in the Kansas City area that I would feel comfortable with, but the timing has always been bad for me to actually take the plunge.

I have 2- the first is a simple teal heart on my left hip. That was my rebellious I'm in college now and out of my parent's house tattoo. A few years ago, I celebrated graduation and completion of my internship with the veterinary symbol and my dog's pawprint. I want many more, but they are on hold for now.

I currently have 2. My first was a chivalry cross on the top of my right foot. The 2nd is a phoenix on my left arm that runs from right under my armpit to the inside of my elbow. I have two more that I'm currently trying to come up with the money for (it's hard allocating money to something like this with a little guy): a family tattoo involving the Black Rabbit of Inle (from Watership Down which is my Dad's favorite book) on my right shoulder, and some sort of Dark Tower tattoo on my side (I think). The DT piece will probably be a quote bordered by the symbols for Ka and Arthur Eld's mark of the White. The problem is which quote to pick, I love so many!!!!

I've got one thus far, but am planning on more. I have the Pearl Jam Stick Man on my right leg. Plan on getting a cross on my shoulder/arm and a military tribute tat somewhere. I also think I'm going to get something to represent my family. My wife has three, so I've got to catch up!

I have one tat, and will probably get more eventually. I want something nautical (maybe a design incorporating an anchor and an octopus) as well as a DT-related design. But I still have to get this one touched up (the pic was taken right after I got it):

17256

The design is from an M.C. Escher drawing entitled 'Mummified Frog'. The first time I saw the drawing, I knew I wanted to make it a tattoo.

I've got eight and after a lot of thought, I decided to get a ninth even though it will be hard to get it to settle in with the drugs I have to take to deaden my immune response. I'm going to draw up and get a certain fire department logo with my uncle's initials and the date of his death. I miss my godfather because he was the first one to show me what a father figure was really supposed to be like.
