Mookie- thank you for sharing your daughter's photo. It is very beautiful! I think it provides the serenity, beauty, and peace of mind we all need right now. Your daughter is quite talented, BTW!

Dustin, Thank you for your kind words. It is a beautiful picture, taken by an extremely precocious 9 year old.:smile2:

It's acted ugly to me twice today. Both times I had written a reply and hit the "post" button and it asked if I wanted to leave the page (without posting) and I clicked no, stay on this page. I hit the "post" button again and it took. Strangeness :oo:

It did that to me too. I thought it was just my stupid computer.

She has had a lot of practice. She took 153 pictures the first day she got the camera for Christmas!! She has been photographing literally everything!! I'll let her know how much everyone liked her picture....she will be overjoyed.

It was actually Jordan who started this new one (I need to know how he was able to do that with Mookie's post! :smile2:) The file for the old one had gotten so big that it was causing problems with the Board's performance.

Good Monday to all, and the start of a new week and a new Cantina. It's still the same enjoyable place to meet, just expanded to accommodate the ever growing Ka-Tet.
Hope everyone had a safe weekend.

Yeh, I noticed Jordan had changed it over at the weekend, along with "The Theme Song" thread. I was a little saddened at first to see JD's name now gone, but at least people can always look at the old one if they need to. I understand why Jordan closed those threads, they were HUGE, and I've noticed myself the last couple of weeks the site has been running extremely slow. Sometimes a good spring clean is needed to freshen up the place.

Have a good week, everybody.

I will miss seeing the posts from John as well...
However, John himself always said that everything changes, and it is up
to us to have to open mind to change as well, or we become stagnant.....

I love you Srbo, and I understand what you're saying.
Please know that I'm not meaning to dis you here....

Dear Srbo, It did make me cry. In my eyes it just isn't right. John started the Cantina, it should be his name up there not mine. In fact, I was going to pm Ms.Mod and ask her if it couldn't be The Ka- Tet Cantina continued by John Dalglish? Ms.Mod could you ask Jordan to work some of his magic?

I'll look into it.

JMO but I think it's better to leave as is. I'd like to consider the old cantina retired in John's memory and this one a new page turned. I think John would like the idea of a new beginning, too.

John's picture is still up there over the bar, he will watch over us always.

I have a lot of catching up to do, the kids completely destroyed 3 rooms of my house this weekend, there are toys everywhere. They started in their room, moved to the living room, and then moved on to big brother's room. Trains, dolls, cars, legos...can I get some volunteers to help? Ah, well. They had a good time, used their imaginations and there was minimal fighting!

So, I will have a cup of coffee and wish you all a good week. May it bring peace and healing. Love you all!

'Monday to you all. I can't quite bring myself to say "Happy Monday" - that's like saying "Good Morning." It just seems somehow wrong to me. I hope you all had a good weekend!

I was travelling this weekend - setting off once again for Seattle (my favorite city) for a briefing prior to heading back up to Alaska to work. I find the prospect of being up there in January a bit daunting, but also can't wait to get back to my job!

It looks like everything is still here, except I think at least one of the bean bags has been slip-covered in leopard print. I'll take that one today.

I'll have a cup of spiced chai, please, with real whipped cream on top. Add a cheddar cheese biscuit, too.

I have a day off today, so I think I'll be catching up on a few things.

Me, too, Annie... so I've settled for "Hi, everyone!"

As a Ka-Tet, I hope we are all healing, slowly but surely. It's already proven difficult, and I'm sure things will continue to be rough for some time to come, but I really do believe that we'll survive.
Actually, I've come to believe that as we comfort, guide, and grieve collectively, we shall grow even stronger. I know I've grown because of everyone's support and love.

Have a good day!

Brother, I can smile sometimes, but I still have moments where I just start crying again. We're all just starting to heal even though it's still not fully absorbed. Personally, I know it's going to take a while for everything to be normal for me. I want normal, but it will take time. I try to have normal anyways by coming in here. It feels kind of awkward to explain it this way, but it's how I'm coping.

It's not just you. It seems all right on the surface but it's definitely different. I think that feeling will lessen as we continue to go on in our live here and elsewhere. What else can we do?

I was watching the end (I missed the rest of it) of "The Stand" on TV this weekend and all I could think of was John. I've seen it so many times that I didn't really need to pay attention to what was happening on screen so my mind just kept wandering away to think about what John would think of this or that.... And how we all talked about hating Molly Ringwald in that part. :biggrin2:

No pard, it's not just you...things are settling back into the old familiar rhythms, but that void will always be there-it's just coming to grips with it and accepting that he'll be the angel/devil peeking over our shoulders from now on...life continues, and accepting the inevitability is rough-but I know JD would have wanted this, this celebration of "our world" to roll on-and knowing that the machine will continue to function, even without a major element that is irreplaceable...this is our best way to honor John-by laughing, loving and being here for one another....

Good Tuesday All! I think this is my first post in the 'New Ka-tet Cantina'. As everyone has said, it feels strange. But, JD would've wanted us to continue on (and on). Everytime I click on the 'favorites' link and come to the SKMB, I think of our friend. I guess I probably always will. Now it's tinged with sadness, but eventually that part will go away and it will become gratitude for having known (at least thru cyberspace) one of our best members. I hope we all will be able to reach that point, some will take longer than others, I know. I'm sending out good vibes to All who need them. Lots to do today! Gotta take down the Christmas decorations, gotta work on one of my cars, gotta take the other one to the shop, gotta, gotta, gotta......Have a good day everyone! Be good to each other and those who's path you cross.

Does anyone know if there is a 'new members' list that shows who has joined for each day? I have been trying to continue JD's legacy of welcoming the 'newbies' when they join, but as soon as a new one joins, the older name is deleted from the bottom of the page underneath where it shows who's on-line, etc. For instance, I just welcomed someone today and as soon as I went back from their profile page there was another newbies name and the other newbies name was gone. It would be nice to be able to go to a 'list' each day, welcome all of the newbies at once so that noone would feel left out in case I didn't catch them when their name showed up at the bottom of the page where it shows who's on-line.

Hi, good day, everyone!

After nearly a week, I finally got away from the house yesterday and journeyed a bit further into my DT re-read.
As expected, that proved to be very difficult. But it's a start, and I really needed that.
The concentration I would have preferred for The Waste Lands just wasn't there. My mind kept drifting back to John, and his eternal love for the series. Even word associations were there..
It took me roughly 2 hours to read approx. 33 pages...

Have a good day, everyone!

The last few times I remember right after pint of cider was black currant-juice?? Something real close to that.

That'd probably be a Cider & Black, a popular combination of cider and blackcurrant cordial that turns your tongue purple!

Hi,

Good whatever everyone !!!!

Well, I spent the weekend in bed, sweating out the infection, and it seems to have worked but I've an irritating new symptom,, sporadic violent body tremors (only to be expected apparently) - very annoying but not painful and Jerry Lee Lewis wrote the song.

Keyboarding increasingly difficult so please excuse me if I seem tardy, terse or curt in my replies but it's not intentional, saving up typing for work on my own two unfinished novels, 'Erockica' (1455 pages, 455k words) and 'Seesters' (1366 pages, 300k words); I think I'm scared of writing 'The End'.

Have a great week everyone, and I hope you had a great weekend.

It's not just you, Srbo. I've been complaining to Jordan about this for quite some time but he wasn't able to find anything obvious that was causing it so we thought it might just be my internet connection since I'm on a cable connection. A few suggestion form a computer nerd...
First, go in your control panel and see if you to need update your PC. Although Windows automatically updates, you still should check for updates.

Or sharing a network can slow down your connection. Is your broadband speed 300Mbps?

Also try clearing your browsing history.

The next time you puter freezes open your tasks and close the program that is not responding. then open your event viewer and see what your system is doing.

My relatives over in the Seattle area already got a few inches yesterday with much more to come later this week. So far, here on the other side of the state, we haven't had any, but it is coming. Everyone have a happy day!!

Neck (and back) muscles are a very common area to tense up from emotional stress. I feel it all the time when I'm doing massages and that's where I get tense the most, too.Moonlighting, Mod?

My neck gets that way. I don't think it's necessarily due to sleeping askew. I guess the muscles can become cramped enough to pull neck bones outta kilter.

Not very much but still have a few people I continue to do massages for to justify renewing my LMT license every year. :smile2: Muscles can become cramped enough to pull a lot of bones (not just the neck ones), tendons and ligaments out of kilter as well as pressing on nerves that cause pain (thinking of sciatic), too. Looking forward to the day when more of the medical community will acknowledge that therapeutic massage isn't just pampering and can be just as helpful as chiropractic, physical therapy, and prescription drug, etc. therapies.

Try to use hand cream or talc on your hands when petting the cats. You can also try gently rubbing the cat with a nylon stocking. do NOT use a dryer sheet, it has toxins in it. Last resort- a very fine misting of warm water-- look out as cat most cats hate that.

Good luck.

I just pulled a load of laundry out of the dryer and even after having a dryer sheet in there, there's still alot of static on the clothes. Isn't static in the air a sign of snow? Hi everybody. Complaining about weather is my favorite small talk topic. But to be honest, this winter has been pretty tolerable, much warmer than the previous two.
Yesterday however, it was pretty scary, as it rained icy water when I left from work by car. All of a sudden, the visibility was close to zero with no possibility to pull over to scrape the ice off on the windshield. With pure luck, I avoided hitting anything.

Have a nice Tuesday

It's because the air is drier and since there is less water vapor in the air in the winter, that's why it's more prevalent then. You might consider using a humidifier if it gets too bad. :smile2:

Your temperature sounds like something we had last winter. When it was coldest we had -30C and that we had for a week. Coldest we have had this winter is -20C but these last days is been around -5C to-10C with much snow. Stay warm.

I did not realize that a dryer sheet would contain toxins that could harm a cat. The same stuff goes on my clothes, and it's a well-known alternative to bug spray here in the southeast usa-my son wipes down with them to keep the no-see-ums (sand gnats) off him.

I guess it's the naturalist/holistic part of me. Many do use the dryer sheets to keep the bugs away. The stronger the smell, the more they stay away, but they do contain many toxins which seep into the skin. I''ll PM you some info.

Thanks, Spidey. I do try to stay away from things that are unnatural, but I think my hubby would have a real problem with it if I stopped using fabric softener and dryer sheets. Yes, we use both-his skin gets really dry, especially in the winter time, and he really can't stand it when his work clothes aren't soft. But, I will check out the info you sent. Maybe there's a more natural alternative that will work just as well. I guess I sort of figured that I would rather have my son use the dryer sheets than a bug spray containing a poison and Deet.

(Which now makes everyone wonder who I did think you were massaging...). I know from experience about pinched nerves due to atrophied muscles. My right psoas muscle is a little atrophied, for some reason, which causes a vertebra in my lower back to pinch a nerve, which in turn causes right hip and leg pain. Curiously, my lower back often doesn't hurt at all. There are exercises I can do, and walking helps. This is not a typical area for massaging, though.

Good Wednesday, Everybody!

Everyone is doing well, I pray.

Just reading about the cold you are experience makes me shiver. Yikes!

Ms.Mod., we have talked a little bit about this before. I carry all my stress in my neck, shoulders and upper back. Have mercy, no matter how much I try to meditate or work out, I find myself with my shoulders up around my ears. And I am in pain. I have had massages and all the kinks (I call them Rice Krispies 'cause they snap, crackle and pop! OUCH!) they finds and work out...heaven. After 45-50 minutes I am a puddle of ooze on the table and whatever cares I had are far, far away. Massages are not a luxury. They are therapeutic both physiologically, physically and psychologically.

Stress kills. It's a medical fact. I have worked in the fields and I have had times of stress and I will testify. 12 hours in the fields under a relentless Sun is preferable to stress. Stress is with you 24/7. It's horrible. And if a massage can help a person with their physical pain and give them a little time to escape their stress...God Bless.

And for those insurance people, paying for a client to get a massage twice a month is way more cost effective than paying for a client blowing a stroke, having a heart attack and all the OT/PT and aftercare they will need.

Sorry, for the rant. I'm stressed and I need a therapeutic massage. Not a luxury. :mad2: THERAPY!

We now return you to your regular Cantina posts.

:smile2:

Have a great day! Stay safe and warm.

Hugs.

Peace.

Everyone RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a snowstorm! Phewwww....but it`s OK, I was starting to get worried about winter. First really bad day weather wise...and that is unusual for Canada. It usually is like this come November, but not so this year....
Nothing else really exciting going on.
Gonna go and make some chicken soup...and probably watch Storm Of The Century.
Fits right in! :)
Love and green lights.

I'm twenty miles away from home in the University library...see how dedicated I am to writing this damn assignment? :y: Anyhoo, it is windy and pissing ...can I say pissing?? down cats and dogs outside and I really don't wanna drive home in it...will a member of this beautiful ka~tet please come and give me a lift home? Anybody??

Ms~Mod, can you place a temporary ban on me accessing this site? Y'all distract me too much. I've just realised it's not my fault I can't write...I blame the board.
Happy Thursday folks. Seriously, though, anybody wanna take me home?? :eyebrow:

HJappy Thursday, Everyone!

(((((Mookie and her girls)))))

(((((Catina)))))

Rain is on its way, so I'll tuck into a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and read by the fire at beanbag central.
In real life, I forgot to put a book in my purse after I finished the last one, and I feel lost without reading material.

Hi David!

I'll bet it really does run in the family. :biggrin2: Did you know that John was the only "Uber Member" on the board? He made 10,000+ posts to get there!

The Cantina is the best place of all around here. Relax, order your favorite drink and/or snack and enjoy the chatter.

Happy Thursday All! Can we say SNOW?????????? Lots and lots of it fell yesterday and still more coming down today. It sure is pretty! I am so-o glad that I took my four days off from work and don't have to be out driving in it right now. Lots of icy roads, not good for driving on at all. Looks like Seattle is pretty much shut down on that side of the state, lots of ice storms came thru early in the morning. Be careful, folks!! Our side of the state is abit more prepared and able to deal with the conditions, but I still ain't going out in it! Today will be cleaning day and baking brownies. You are all cordially invited to come over and have some nice warm brownies! Yum!!

XoHI, Dav13Bh07! You and the SKMB are well met. You probably have ten posts now, by the time I finish going on. And on. Atlanta is great today. Not chilly. How do we do it? We don't, but we do wait, because in 12 hours we'll be iced in. I should go shopping for staples. Then walmart.

Phew, had a minute to catch my breath!! My girls are eating homemade soup and playing a barbie video game. It's snowing here too now....looks kinda pretty. ( at least for now) I hope all Tet-Mates are safe and snuggly. David, the Cantina is indeed a wonderful place to start. I am sure that you will enjoy your time here.

Hi, happy Thursday everybody,

But we do give you bathroom breaks every three to four hours tho!

Doing time at SKMB, isn't one supposed to ask a permission for bathroom break from Ms Mod, rather than the fellow (in)mates?

Hi, David, welcome to the Cantina! What an honor it is to have you amongst the MB!:biggrin2:

(((Catina)))
(((Mookie's girls)))

Well, we got about 6 inches of snow yesterday. It finally stopped in the afternoon sometime. But I woke up to more of the stuff this morning, and it is STILL coming down! Ugghh!

Have a great day, everyone!
I hope all's well.

Aww, thank you, that's sweet! I made it home in one piece, spent a lot of time behind the wheel screaming like a real girl but I made it. :y: And I promptly went to the shop and bought a bottle of red wine, I need a drink after the week I've had. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

It's called delegating. She doesn't have time anymore for those menial tasks......:biggrin2:

You can change that if you go to your settings, then General Settings. Scroll down and there's a section where you can change which posts you see first when you pull up a thread.

Good Friday to all. Warmth is returning here, so sending sunshine and good vibes for all who will deal with the snow this weekend. For the Pacific northwest-- stay high and dry in the flooding, and be careful driving in that snow and ice.

May all have a good weekend, rest and fun things to do.
Herbal tea in hand and off to bean bag central. All are welcome to join.
