Please let them cast an actress who is more butt-kicking than wimpy Molly Ringwald. I'd go with Jessica Chastain (viz - taking down Nazis in The Debt) or Rachel McAdams (blowing Cillian Murphy away in Red Eye.) McAdams might be too "old", but CGI and lighting can do wonders.

Speaking of Cillian Murphy - wouldn't mind seeing him as Flagg.

I just can't believe you'd want to bash Molly.

 OK, I couldn't keep a straight face with that.

I know people who didn't read the book who like ol' Molly.

So i'll give the poor girl a break.

I am really liking Emma Stone at the moment, she has great screen presence and looks good also.

I could see her as a serious contender to play Fran.

I vote for Kate Beckinsale, on the one condition she has to wear the outfit she wore in "Underworld" in every single scene. Case closed, give that girl an Oscar for her new role as Frannie.

I'm not that crazy about Molly Ringworm either. Did I say that out loud. I'll show myself out.

I'd have to think about Murphy as Flagg, but I LOVE him as a villain.

Look I have always loved Molly, but she was never right for Fran. But she did an ok job considering it was MFTV

C'mon you guys, Molly Ringwald was great! In the Breakfast Club. As Frannie, not so much.

whoever cast Molly as Fran needs to be shot (out of a cannon).. pitiful choice. But, the same can be said for Rob Lowe as Nick, remember the scene of deaf mute Nick standing with Mother A on the porch looking out at the corn, his back turned to her while she makes a speech, nodding his head in agreement.. when he CAN'T HEAR.. anyway... Laura Prepon (with her red hair) will make a good Fran, she does drama quite well. She might be a bit too old now though, Frannie is.. 19? The actress who plays Quinn on Glee would be good if she dyed her hair red.. she has the 'I want' face. The actress who plays Santana on Glee would make an excellent Nadine.. oh yeah

I guess what did bother me most was her hair.

I wanted blonde, long and beautiful. Wasn't that what it was suppose to be?

I think Ringwald is a good actress; she was simply miscast in The Stand.

NO. Franny has dark brown hair and brown eyes.

WAY too young. Nadine is older, 30s. Someone suggested Winona Ryder. I think she'd be very interesting.

I want to apologize. I do have a slight tendency to let my feelings for Ms. Ringwo - Ringwald now color my feelings for her earlier works. I enjoyed/enjoy The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles but especially since The Stand I get irritated when I see her. And don't get me started on Tori Spelling.

OK, I feel better. Back to the bashing!

Cillian Murphy would be a great villain right enough. As for Nadine I would like to suggest Angelina Jolie but I can't do it with a straight face so I'm gonna say Eliza Dushku.

I agree. The most annoying miscasting for me was Franny, Nadine, Harold & Flagg. Maybe Logan Lerman as Harold & Leighton Meester as Fran

Yes, yes a thousand times YES!!!

Fran had a certain sturdiness to her that Molly just ain't got. It's so distracting to know that while the character is rolling past corpses in cars, the actress would probably be waving her hands around and having a freaking panic attack.

I'm so with you on this... :biggrin2:

I love the idea of Gary Oldman as Flagg, but he is too old. Flagg is supposed to look 25-35 years old. I could see Cillian Murphy, that's a good choice. For Fran, I like Emma Stone, I also like Jennifer Lawerence (Winter's Bone). Frannie is 21 with chestnut hair and brown eyes.

I just finished watching this for the first time last night. I don't know who I'd cast for Flagg, but I really couldn't stand Jamey Sheridan. Not sure what it was about him that I didn't like, but :zip:

Lets face it, other than Gary Sinise it wasn't exactly an all star cast but I thought Molly did a respectable job as Fran. What it did for me was put a face to the characters when I read the book again.

Yesterday I was thinking about this and Rachel McAdams came to my mind but just like you I was wondering about the age factor. I also though about Emma Stone.

see, she's just like us, she wants senpai to notice her.

but in all seriousness, Franny was supposed to have way more pizzazz. =_= I wasn't too pleased.

I agree, Molly Ringwald was wronly cast for this role....Most of the casting was wrong for me with the exception of Adam Storke as Larry Underwood and Matt Frewer as Trashy.
I can see Jennifer Lawrence in this role, ad Bradley Cooper as Larry Underwood. Jonah Hill as Harold Lauder??

I am so glad to see I am not the only one who did not like Molly Ringwald cast as Fran. She is not Fran. Too whiney.

I really liked most of the rest of the cast. Harold could have been cast better but he wasn't too horrible.

Interesting, I thought Jamey Sheridan was a good Flagg. Ringwald eh...no and wasn't Harold Lauder suppose to be heavy and wear his hair long? I really like Gary Sinise, but I thought Stu Redman should have been a little younger.

Great job casting the trash can man, decent job on Julie Lawry, Nadine Cross, Nick and Tom. The rest I don't really remember.

I thought Frannie had long blonde hair? I imagined her a bit like Gweneth Paltrow!

I thought Larry Stu and Nadine were perfect - Tom and Nick also - all in all it was a good series and stayed as true as possible to the book (apart from a few exceptions!)

Frannie was terrible casting!

Flagg - hmmmmmmmm I liked him at the time but thinking back I think I would have had Clint Eastwood in the Good the Bad and the Ugly lol
