Hello Everyone:laugh:,
We all know that most all of Stephen Kings Books R excellent, but what is everyones favorite Stephen King Movie? I used to think Pet Sematary was good, in fact it scared the S##T out of me but the ending SUCKED. My favorite movie is THE SHINING, it not only had a great cast, but is was so creepy and chilling. I tried to put myself in their shoes and it creeped me out. It's not one of those far out movies but it could happen in away. I can't imagine being stuck in a hotel like that all Winter and my husband losing it. i thouht this was one of Jack Nicholason's best performaces, since One Few Over the Cuckoo's Nest. So tell me Ur favorite and why? I look forward to reading Ur replies.

Stand by Me.
It just makes me think about myself and my friends when we were 11-12 years old. I watch it quite often actually.

I really like 1408, and that one scares me bad. The part that bothers me the most is where he thinks he's out of the room and back to life like normal, starts seeing people he saw in the room, and then realizes he's actually still there and never really got out. The whole losing your mind thing scares the crap outta me. :eek2:

I haven't seen them all. The first one was The Shining w/Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. I enjoyed the movie...and recently they have been showing Shawshank Redemption on the tee-vee...that is a favorite, as is Stand By Me, Green Mile...The Stand version w/Lt. Dan...heh! I also watched The Running Man and didn't realize it was a King....flick....until the credits rolled.

Pet Sematary one of my favorite. But Misery wasn't so bad either and Dolores Claiborne is still the best SK movie for me.

I have got to answer Misery because it contains one of my all time favorite performances in James Caan. Not to mention the screenplay being written by my all time favorite screenwriter, William Goldman, the story being terrifying, and finally, Bates' contribution, which is perfect.
My answer being duly recorded, I must say, today I'd rather watch Shawshank or Green Mile. Also, if 1408 or The Mist rears an adorable head I'm watching them, too.
I've always loved Needful Things--which I saw long before reading any sK books and probably not being aware he was even involved--mostly due to the story's concept, its connection with an embarrassing fact about humanity, but also due to Ed Harris' grand performance, as well as the actor playing the little boy, I think his name is Shane Meier, who, imho, stole the show.

Shawshank, The Green Mile, Stand by Me, Misery and It. It wasn't the greatest but the story is one of my SK faves(reading it again now, in fact)so it's always had a small spot in my heart. Shawshank and The Green Mile were fan-freaking-tastic though. I'll watch either of them any time they're on.

I love a great deal of Stephen King movies but Stand By Me is one of my favourite films ever. In my opinion it is fantastic, I could honestly watch it once a week for the rest of my life and never get bored of it.

I've gotta go with Shawshank on this one. Misery, The Green Mile, and Stand By Me would be right behind it. Several others would be on the "VERY honorable mention" list. I'd say The Shining, but it's more like a Kubrick film, based (loosely in many parts) on an SK story.

I just finished a re-read of Misery (audiobook) and I watched the movie right after I finished. The movie is excellent and is a good adaptation. It is not as dark as the book but that's ok. Of course Kathy Bates was awesome in this role and her performance is what everyone instantly thinks of but James Cann was really good in this too. I can never read this book or hear the name Annie Wilkes without picturing Kathy Bates.
My favorite SK movies are:
The Shining
Stand By Me
Misery

Misery is the best in my opinion.
Stand By Me is a close second.
Shawshank and Dead Zone third.
Ask me again next month and I'll probably have them all in a different order!
I also have lots of favorites that see regular rotation: Cujo, Christine, Pet Sematary, The Shining, The Mist, Secret Window. It and The Stand are my favorite TV adaptations, although the first Salem's Lot is pretty darn good too.

It's wicked-tough to chose a favorite. Guess I'll go for Shawshank with Dolores Claiborne a close second.
The Shining (1980), The Dead Zone (1983) and Misery are up there as well.

Oh where to start... While many movies/miniseries based on SK's books or short stories have been absolutely terrible, there have been quite a few gems. Let's see...
Shawshank Redemption is easily my favorite; followed by The Stand, Stand By Me, Misery, Children of the Corn (kinda surprised no one has mentioned this one), Secret Window, Pet Sematary, Dolores Claiborne, and Apt Pupil.
On the other hand I think The Shining is one of the most overrated movies of all time; in fact I think most Kubrick movies are overrated. His style just doesn't do it for me (I do like Full Metal Jacket though). I didn't really care for the miniseries either. I know this is considered blasphemy to most Stephen King fans, but *GASP* I just don't really like The Shining. It's actually one of my least favorite of his earlier works (along with Carrie).
I'm also kind of surprised how many people listed It as one of their favorites. It is one of my absolute favorite books of his, and I really couldn't imagine a worse adaptation than the 1990 miniseries. It was so bad it was comical. They left out half of the best parts of the book and the acting was terrible.

The Shining, old version. I know Mr. King didn't like it too much, but the movie scared the hell out of me when I saw it circa de 1980-1981 at the drive-in. Didn't sleep well for several days....and I remember my mom yelling at my dad afterwards for taking me with him to see it......lol

Here's mine in this order:
1. The Shining by Stanley Kubrik (I read somwhere that Stephen King dislike it). Absolutely masterpiece with terrifying atmosphere
2. The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption.
3. It, The Stand, The Mist, Misery

I would have to say The Green Mile, although I very much liked Shawshank and Carrie. But I think The Green Mile was the closest to the book and characters were so greatly portrayed. I also liked The Mist a lot, but I hated the ending.

Stephen King playing Jordy Verrell in Creepshow is hard to beat. I can still watch that and crack up. Such a good performance. I think Creepshow would have to be my favorite, but there are a lot of good movies made from Mr. King's books.

I'd say either The Shining or 1408. I'd probably have to give the edge to The Shining because of the scene where Jack chases Danny in the maze at the end. And of course, the picture at the end. I really don't understand why Stephen King doesn't like the movie, because it scared the hell out of me (room 217 and the axe scenes).

Apt Pupil mainly because of the historical significance. A close second is Stand By Me.

So hard to choose! Dolores by far has the best performance of character. Pet sematary is the most horrifying. Carrie is the most classic. Shawshank is the most heartfelt. The mist is the most faithful and shocking. Too hard to choose!

I didn't see this group thread before I had just posted my last item. I'm a first-timer, so please forgive me.
My favorite Stephen King movie, that's a tough one. I'll post later once I've thought about it. I do want to say, however, that tonight I've been watching: Creepshow, and I've gotta tell ya, I forgot how creepy, yet funny this movie was! It is a compilation of short stories. The short story titled: The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill, was super funny! It stars Stephen King and he is simply HILARIOUS in it! It had been may years since I had seen it; it came out in 1982. I definitely forgot how scary, funny, and yes, a bit corny it was. If you haven't seen it or it has been awhile since, you may want to have a look-see. I remember reading the book in high school, along with: Skeleton Crew.

My favorite! I don't really know why. It is old, the special effects are cheap, it misses quite a few of the elements I love about the book... And still I watch it over and over. I honestly don't know how many times I have seen it.
