One of the ultimate horror film theme songs comes from one of the pioneers of modern day horror film, JC John Carpenter, who often develops the music for his films like Halloween, the original mad slasher film made with Debra Hill and not Diane Johnson lol, What is your favorite horror theme?

The original Halloween theme gets my vote. I love that! Plus, I just love Jamie Lee! She still looks good!

Seems as if the haunted would hear the music in the horror movies. The sound of the music would tell me to get the hell out of there!

My vote goes to Halloween is the best horror movie song that ever been made. But horror theme to Psycho is not very bad either.

The score for Psyco, “The Murder” by Bernard Hermann, always give me that unnerving feeling.

I've gotta vote for the original Halloween. By today's standards, or lack thereof, the movie wasn't very bloody, but Carpenter used music to set the mood, raise tension, get emotional responses. As for the remake, it tried to briefly delve into what made Michael Myers a monster, but all in all, I've seen better film on teeth.

I personally love the music from Silent Hill, both from the movies and video games.

I must say Jaws was the first to come to my mind, but that song they play during Silence of The Lambs when what's his face is dancing and tucking himself back, also makes my skin crawl.

I have always loved the theme from Bram Stokers Dracula (the one with Gary Oldman as Dracula). I also love anything by Angelo Bandalamenti, he best known for the Twin Peaks music, but he did the music for Mulhulland Drive and lots of other David Lynch films.

I couldn't agree anymore. "Bram Stoker's Dracula's" theme alone terrified me as a kid. Also the David Lynch movies music, except maybe Lost Highway. He filled that with contemporary music. "Mullholland Drive's" theme was really, really creepy, though.

Ranks right up there with "I love, you, you love me etc. etc. gag etc." from Barney, the purple imp of Satan...

Not really horror per se but sinister nonetheless.

The Halloween Theme is very effective. Carpenter - affectionately known in my circle as "One-Note Johnny" ;) - uses a minimalist style that really suits his directing style. Proof that you don't need an entire orchestra to score a film.

Not a movie, but my favorite TV horror theme:

Thanks everybody for contributing horror film/TV themes, keep them coming...

Three classics not yet mentioned I will now add including,

The original Amityville Horror film theme is creepy, those kids singing softly and melodically sinister is real cool,

Friday the 13th has undeniably one of the most popular scare themes with that strange killer chant, Part 3-D had a dance beat added to give the music a third dimension as well,

And no list is complete without "The Ballad of Harry Warden" from My Bloody Valentine,

I just picked this (Mulhulland Drive) soundtrack up at a used bookstore and it's great!

Okay, this isn't a horror theme, but it mystery and suspense. And everyone has hit all the major songs so I wanted to throw this in here. It's so great and since I'm having a love affair with all things noir at the moment, I wanted to share.

WAIT! I couldn't believe this one wasn't here. Okay, so the la la la's aren't terribly spine tingling, but if you've seen the movie, it's sort of a gentle lullaby with horrors yet to come.

did it work? It's the Tubular Bells music from the Exorcist but I must admit that after a while it gets a bit monotonous...

This is not a horror theme song, but instead of starting a whole new thread I hope it's ok to post here...I watched this this morning and now I can't get the song out of my head...such a beautiful, emotional theme song. I love this movie too.
