We already have an "I am happy today" thread, so why not the opposite? I'm not one for spreading negativity, but sometimes ya just gotta gripe a bit and hope that someone else can commiserate!
I'm ticked off today because sewer water backed up into my basement! This comes at a really bad time because neither my wife nor I can stay at home and wait for a plumber--she has mandatory year-end overtime and I am covering for one co-worker who is on vacation and another who is home sick with a double ear infection! I called a 24-hour service to see if they could possibly come out tonight, they said they would call me back. They said it would cost $150 an hour to fix it! ARRRGHH!!!

Working in a prison irritates the crap out of me every day, because of the overwhelming mindset amongst the inmates that they are "owed" something simply because they are incarcerated...yeah, you owe the state your time-end of story...:glare:

This thread is just for me. I don't like when they sometimes call me to come to work when I have my day off. And this can happen tomorrow again. Because many of my co worker have flu and are laying home because of that. So I expect a call from my boss today or tomorrow. If that's not happen then I can enjoy I'm happy today thread.

I`m ticked of because...
Yesterday I received a book from a friend of mine that he has written.
It`s beautiful, it hit so close to home, it was totally unexpected...
I wanted to only browse through it, thought I had no time to start reading, read the first two sentences, and the next thing I know is I`m in tears the whole time and it`s three o clock AM in the meantime.
He reminded me so much on what used to be, how we used to be, how the World used to be, and how it is today.
Most of all he reminded me on how I used to be...a pure, innocent man, slow to anger, slow to harsh words, open to the World, open to people, loving everything and everybody...
Oh my God, how I miss that man...and how I hate the one who is writing this...
Maybe I`m not ticked off at all...maybe I`m just sad...

I'm mad because I had beans last night because that's all I can afford and I had to fart this morning only it wasn't a fart and I'm out of quarters and anti-Hersheysquirt detergent for the laundromat and I don't have gasoline to drive there anyway since the gas got repossesed with my car and I'm lying.
As shirty as my life is, many people have it worse.

Okay, this is something I was ticked about last month, but now I have the perfect place to vent about it...
My husband's niece died last month - she was in her early 40s, died of cancer, and left behind four children ranging in age from 4 - 12. Sitting through her funeral was like having my guts pulled out - though she and I weren't close, the tragedy of four children losing their mother so young was incomprehensible. During the funeral mass, a cell phone started to ring. It belonged to the woman sitting in front of me. Instead of leaping out of the pew like her ass was on fire and running out of the church never to return (as any normal person should have done), she leisurely unzipped her purse, dug around (two rings, three rings), pulled out a little cell phone holder, unlatched it (four rings, five rings), pulled the phone out and.... can you imagine what she did?? She flipped it open and said, "Hello?" Every person in the church (and it was full) turned to look at her. She said, "I can't talk right now. Can I call you back?" No shame. No apologetic looks. I was ready to kill her. I didn't even recognize her, and talking to others later, nobody knew who she was. We think she may have just showed up to attend a Saturday afternoon mass so she wouldn't have to go on Sunday.
Well, a little later the priest asked the children and husband to come up and gather around the casket before he closed it. We were all just choked with grief. As the priest and family were praying over the casket, guess what? The phone rings again - she hadn't turned it off! I saw my husband's hand reach out - I didn't know what he was going to do, but I grabbed his arm and pulled it back. He told me later that he was just going to tap her on the shoulder and ask her to leave. The person in front of her turned full around to face her, and gave her a look so full of hatred and murderous anger that she got the message. She fled the pew and left, though not before clearly answering her phone again before the door closed behind her.
I guess to say this "ticked me off" is an understatment. Thank you for letting me vent about it here.

SusanNorton, that is truly appalling. People can be amazingly rude sometimes, but the word "rude" doesn't seem strong enough in that case, does it?
Update: My boss let me go home a bit early so I could be here for the plumber. They just left, it took them exactly 1 hour and cost me $149.99. The culprit? So-called "flushable" wipes! Despite being marketed as "flushable", these wipes apparently clog pipes as efficiently as if you'd flushed a cotton shirt down the toilet. The plumber told me that ever since flushable wipes have been introduced to the market, they have more business than they know what to do with. What gets me is that we would have never bought these wipes if they weren't marketed as flushable! I can't believe they are allowed to sell these things! I went online and found thousands of people with the same problem, flushable wipes are not really flushable despite their name! Now I have something new to be ticked off about!

Flushable wipes probably ARE flushable...in laboratory tests. The problem arises when you flush them straightaway and they hang out in the "S-Bend" of your John (no offense intended, JD).
Let them hang out in the bowl for a while before flushing. More surface area for the water to work. Adding one of those "once a month" bleach-based nuggets to your tank might also help them break down faster. And when in doubt, plunge BEFORE flushing.

Ah yes, the old bend in the pipe trick has probably put more plumbers kids through college or rehab than any other.
Now one would think that a not so really big fish would be naturally predisposed to being flushed, tis not so say I.
Oh yes please, allow me to explain...
One of my brothers loved his fishes, and kept multiple fish tanks with many varieties of exotic species.
Just before this one yuletide time of year, he bought a fish he said was some kind of South American Freshwater Shark.
(but in reality, it was really a Channel Catfish...now he could call it whatever he wanted, but I know a Channel Catfish when I see one, as I've caught, cleaned, and ate many, but when a some sucker pays in the neighborhood of a hundred ducats for a fish, well, they's gonna keep callin' it something foreign & exotic, and this particular fish stick was no exception:biggrin2:)
Anyway, said Catfishy lookin' "Shark", of suspect origin, kicked the water bucket as it were, and my brother found it floating on top of it's tank in the mourning, stiff as a plank (a deeelicious way to prepare many swimmylicious things by the way, I highly recommend Ceder or Hickory).
Well naturally, as befalls the fate of millions of fishes yearly, Goldfish I'm thinkin' being numero uno, whoooosh down the commode it goes, the ol' burial at sewer, and just a few hours the whole family was to arrive...timing is everything as the sayin ' goes!
Ahh but this is no Goldfish, this is a eight or nine inch Catfish (incognitoly disguised as a Spanish, or possibly Portuguese speaking, freshwater "Shark"...oh yeeeah, with whiskers..well, for the porpoise of that oh so clever disguise ya know:wink2:), that has rigor mortised into the exact shape of a banana:oo:..well okay, as close as the shape of a banana a Catfishshark can become in death, but one must remember, it was a master of disguise in life, so.......
So now we have a 'nana shaped, not so fresh, do-it-yourself serving of sushi, and as Mr.James has pointed out, that plumbers friend, the home owners dreaded, da da da daaaa, S-Bend...Houston..uhhh, I mean Mrs. Paul's, we have a problem:oops:!
Yep, all the pipes flow overboard, water is coming up all the tub and shower drains, it's pouring through the ceiling in the basement...Mama, let us say for the sake of simplicity (and without all that damned cursing), is not a very happy camper..and she doesn't even camp out is what I'm sayin'!
My brother learned three valuable lessons that day (I mean after all, those are the most expensive in my experience), one is Mama knew some words we hadn't previoulsy realized she was hip to, two is obvious, if your gonna flush a not too big, but yet rather large(ish) fish down the toilet, after it has stiffened into something other than straight geometric shapes, one should break out the Bass-O-Matic, or at the very least a cleaver, and three, plumbers make some pretty sweeeet dough doin' emergency calls on cold Christmas mornings:laugh:.

Years ago my two younger cousins flushed NINE tiny nearly~newborn puppies down the toilet (pretty twisted huh?) luckily their mother realised instantly something was up when they came downstairs soaking wet. She called the fire brigade who were stationed just around the corner and miraculously they managed to save them all from the pipes. My cousins were then "rewarded" for their behaviour by having their photograph with the puppies splashed across the front page of the local newspaper. Somehow they made it sound like a heart warming story of survival. Kids!

I am ticked off today because we came home from Belize yesterday (bad enough all by itself), then discovered that the house/dogsitter had helped himself to our checkbook and written himself about $5000 in checks. This guy is a friend...or so we thought. At first we did not think he had done it - didn't think he was anywhere near so stupid. But he admitted it when confronted. I got him off alone to talk, figuring that if he will talk to anyone about the truth behind this, it would be me. I asked him why, and he did not have an answer. I asked him if he was using again, and he said no. (He used to be into oxys, but things he has said recently make me think there is no way he'd be using again. Still, you never know, and I know better than to take his word for it.)
He then told me that he had spent the money on surgery for his dog after she was hit by a car. I know the dog was hit, and ultimately put down, but that was days after he started writing checks. He isn't telling me something. I don't know how to handle it.
We did call the cops, because we had to file a report to recover the money from our bank. We have not yet filed charges. As I said, this guy has been a friend. He is also 20 years old and basically a nice kid, but he does have a record (drugs). If we file charges, it would be at least 11 felony counts. I don't want to send him up for that kind of time; I don't want to ruin his life. If he is using again, he needs help, not prison, and I wish he'd level with me. Not as if I'd never been there. If he isn't, I just want to know WTF is going on.

I'm ticked off today because I am tired off people who have come to understand that they have neither the intelligence nor wherewithal to do anything productive or positive so they do something simple and negative.

I am totally ticked off with bored individuals who seem to get their jollys by lighting bush fires every summer then watching the firies take days to put it out.
We are in drought, the ground is cinder dry and we didnt need the 10 fires a day that were deliberately lit over the Christmas break!!! One fire was re-lit up to five times after they firies had extinguised it !!!!
Driving back from the farm the other day we had to take a 45 minute detour coz some loser had torched the National Forest right next the the highway we were on. That fire burnt for two days!
And, while on the subject of hot weather..... I am so ticked off with this heat!!! 10 days in a row over 40 degrees and today .... 40 and thunderstorms - you could almost ring the water out of the air this morning ! We are getting this crap heat and fires while the east coast is drowning under monsoonal rains ....
oh .. I could go on today !

I'm ticked off today because I am tired off people who have come to understand that they have neither the intelligence nor wherewithal to do anything productive or positive so they do something simple and negative.

Not only 'simple and negative', Mz. Sig, but vicious and selfish and joy killing.
I think we need to find an atoll in the Pacific and ship all of the aforementioned types there to live out their lives far, far away from us who only want to see a little joy in our lives.

I am ticked off today because it was yet another morning with a mug glued to the counter top by dried milk. I pretty much called him a child for not knowing how to pour and drink milk neatly. Just what I want first thing in the morning... scrubbing the counter top to take off petrified milk that he couldn't be bothered to wipe up at night.

I am very TICKED OFF today because I noticed on Amazon that someone has published a book that appears to borrow a lot (if not all) from the Master, Stephen King's, wonderful novel, "Salem's Lot". The book in question is called "Darkened Hills" and was 'authored' by Gary Lee Vincent, published this year by Burning Bulb Publishing and now for sale on Amazon. Apparently, this guy has stolen most of the settings, characters, plotlines and dialogue practically verbatim from "Salem's Lot". "Salem's Lot" is one of my personal favorite books - I have read it at least five times - and I admire Mr. King too much to not be totally ticked off at any kind of theft of his great work. I don't want to call plagiarism on this guy myself. But I do think Mr. King's attorneys might want to have a look.

Ms. Mod,
Here is a letter posted by the author of Darkened Hills. I don't know if it is useful for anything but he addresses the issue vs. Salems Lot.

Kinda ticked off because today was our first day back at school after our two week holiday and my sleeping pattern's totally messed up. Monday night - didn't sleep till after half 4, woke up at 7 and just curled up wide-awake under the covers until 11, not wanting to surface. Tuesday night, I went to bed nice and early. Dunno when I eventually fell asleep, but I remember hearing the cuckoo clock chime 5am. Not entirely sure what happened, but I woke up at half six, an hour before I really need to. Today I kept switching off randomly in class, and in Chemistry my friend thought I was in serious danger of falling asleep and setting my hair on fire with the bunsen burner. Yet it's quarter to two as I'm writing this, I've spent 3 hours in vain trying to get some shut-eye and eventually gave up. I don't even like coffee but I'm seriously considering taking a flask of it to school to give me a caffeine buzz, this is just not fun!

Ms. Mod, I am glad you are looking into this matter. I am a long-time fan of Stephen King and having read Salem's Lot and enjoyed it for many years, I was extremely dismayed to see someone attempting to copy the work and claim it as his own and make a profit. I consider that despicable. Amazon displays the first few pages of "Darkened Hills". Within those pages are many instances of Gary Lee Vincent's slight re-wording of passages from Salem's Lot. Here is one:
Taken from "Darkened Hills" by Gary Lee Vincent:
"..he left the paper folded and set it down next to William’s iPod. The article bothered him a lot. Maybe William would read it, maybe he would not. Later that night William came to Jonathan and said, “I don’t think the matter is behind us.” “No, I don’t think it is,” was all Johnny could say. “I’m worried,” William said flatly. “Me too,” replied Johnny."
From "Salem's Lot":
"He left the paper around with no particular hope that the boy would pick it up. The article made him uneasy for a number of reasons. It was not over in ‘salems Lot yet, it seemed. The boy came to him a day later with the paper in his hand, folded over to expose the headline “Ghost town in Maine?” “I’m scared,” he said. “I am too,” the tall man answered."
This re-wording of plotlines and situations from Salem's Lot occurs throughout Mr. Vincent's book. I personally have a big problem with that and consider it the worst form of exploitation. I would hate to see him get away with it. I will let Mr. King's fans (and perhaps his attorneys) be the judge of whether or not his work has been co-opted by Mr. Vincent.

Hi Ms. Kim! I hope you are feeling better. I understand the headaches and anxiety. I have been the same way plus feeling alot of stress (and weepy) the past few days. And some other people I have talked to are feeling the same way.
It's not unusual after the two weeks of holidays and the New Year. Lots of family, friends and fun but also rather stressful and hectic. Sometimes it feels like "Happy New Year" is an order and/or demand! :smile2: What if I feel like I survived the past year by the skin of my teeth? And now I have to have a happy New year as well? No pressure!
I'm taking the day off to decompress, cry if I want to, relax and de-stress. Wish me luck!
Feel better soon!
Hugs.

Unfortunately, he is right as to its being a constitutional protection. Here's the Wiki link for the Equal Rights Amendment to give you a little background info on its history. As we know, there's often a disparity between moral, ethical, and legal protections. :glare:

There is, however, plenty of court precedent as to the 14th Amendment (the one that freed the slaves following the Civil War, ensuring them equal protection under the law) applying to women. And to say that the Constitution affords protection of rights to corporations, but not to half the population, is patently absurd. In the ruling on the Citizen's United case, Scalia (and 4 others of the court, sadly) said that the constitution does apply to corporations, ergo they have the right to buy our elections now.

I wasn't a toddler, but I was there, too. :smile2: Phyllis Schlafly wasn't among my heroes or persons to emulate. One would think the 14th Amendment should provide protection but it's all in the interpretation of intent of the Amendment. That's why nomination of Supreme Court justices is such a big deal and one that people should pay attention to. Their personal views, in spite of protests that it won't affect rulings, do IMO factor into their decisions.

I am so ticked off because I just saw a news report that the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation is suing every other group who uses the words "for the cure" in their names or promotions. It will cost 1 million dollars to do so, and they are using donated money to pursue the lawsuit.
Et tu, Susan G. Komen, Inc.? Greed has gotten to you too? Aren't all the groups who use that wanting the same thing? Isn't the goal to cure cancer? Isn't all the money raised "For The Cure" a good thing? Can't you be proud that you started a movement where money raised will go for research and not lawsuits?
I can understand if this was Del Monte's slogan being used, or the Jolly Green Giant--but this is a fund raising situation wanting a CURE. Can't you just embrace that? But, it comes down to profits. Everyone has to get their hands greased, right Susan G. Komen, Inc.? What kind of bonuses are you giving your C.E.O.'s that you have to make sure every single dime goes to your coffers? Gah! I'm so angry. Don't use donations for your greed.

Most of today was spent travelling to Glasgow, so we could learn how to write a letter in German... I'm not even kidding.
This required spending 5 hours on a bus with the most irritating guy in the history of the world. I try to see the good in everyone, but boy, is he a challenge.
I could stand it last year when he told us he wasn't actually 15, he was a 30 year old undercover spy. I could stand it when he wore a wedding ring for 4 months, claiming he was married to his parole officer. Ditto when he made up a girlfriend, and a fake facebook page for her. When he got a real girlfried, and slagged her off to the whole class, he became even less enchanting. The day he told us he was an amazing musician, and he knew because Jimi Hendrix had told him so what mildly annoying (considering Hendrix died 24 years before he was born)
But today, when he claimed to be an expert on all music and told us that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_%28musician%29 was actually in his late seventies... I had to intervene

Gray, rainy, foggy outside. The upside is that Stephen King was on my mind first thing as I looked out, sau the skeleton on the winters trees, backlit by the streetlights, shrouded in the early fog. I am irritated today because I am an angry person...... (long story that follows)
We have not really been the best of friends for the last year for several reasons. I lacked in social skills. I didn’t like complaining and rehashing drama for the sake of having something to gossip about. So while she and her new friends would complain about the people they didn’t like, their sexual explorations, and experiences they had I would be sitting outside their circle of chairs surfing the net. She spent most of her time avoiding and ignoring me. Sometimes she would call and invite me to hang out or have dinner and it would be like old times. I would start to think we were okay. Then she’d be mad and not want to have anything to do with me. She would lie to me, we’d fight.
I liked her brother.I told her I liked him one day. I wasn’t ready to tell him though, I was scared he’d laugh and never speak to me again. When I finally worked up the courage to tell him a week later he laughed and told me he knew. She had told him right after I left.
It was of course no biggie to her. I told her to shove off. The next day she apologized. We then progressed to the point where she would make fun of me to her friends and only liked me when I was acting like an idiot. I couldn’t tell her anything without her treating me as if I was stupid. She would be happy around everyone but me. She would hug and hang out with everyone but me. If I was standing next to her she would be more deliberate about avoiding me. When I tried to talk to her about how our relationship was going and how I felt we weren’t really friends anymore she would blow me off and say that I was being silly. I ended up breaking down and crying in front of her. She spent the next 10 minutes looking at me with a mixture of pity, disgust, and amusement. During one of our talks she told me she continued to hang out with me because I was the fat friend. She would continuously ask if I was jealous of her friends.
In the end her new friends ended up talking behind her back, they hated her, made fun of her, and all of the sudden according to her we were best buds again.
I find trying to be her friend again a challenge. She wants to prove that she’s better then the girl who replaced her, the girl who acts exactly like her. Many of the things she does or says will irritate me or remind me that we’re only friends because none of her old friends wants to hang out with her.
I am irritated today because I should be a better person than the one I am now. Most of All I’m angry that I care about her and haven’t called it quits. I'm irritated that she thinks everything is okay just because I don't have any other friends.

SF -- this person is not your friend. But you know this. She has no clue what being a friend means. Do NOT call her a friend because that cheapens the honor. You need to cut her loose and cultivate new people in your life. Volunteer somewhere. That is a really great way to make new friends. Volunteers tend to be caring people and if you volunteer in an area that you enjoy, you will find like-minded people to hang with.
Volunteer at your local library. Or the hospital. Or pick a teacher at a nearby school and be her hero. Be loyal, consistent, and work hard and in no time, you will have people seeking you out because they know they can count on you. And, when they learn you are a competent, go-getter, they will come to you for everything, so it's a good thing to learn to say "No" without feeling guilty. And just because you say "no" does not mean people will not like you anymore. They will respect you for being honest.
You must value yourself. Now get out there!

Sentimental - ditto what Dana Jean said. As I was reading your post, it was like I was reliving grades 6-11 with one of my "best" friends. She loved to belittle me in front of her more popular friends. She noticed everything I did differently (such as wear a new style of shoe, etc) and would immediately shoot it down. Once, in ninth grade, I decided to wear eye shadow. She said, "Oh, you put on eyeshadow? It looks like sh*t." I was a very sensitive, insecure, introverted person, and this cut me to the core. If ever I mustered up the courage to tell her that she hurt my feelings, she'd laugh like a hyena and say, "I was joking! Can't you take a joke? You're so overly sensitive."
My mother hated her, she saw right through her and encouraged me to end our "friendship." I finally did, in our junior year of high school. I had a crush on a guy (she loved to make fun of him and call him a dork and a doofus, etc.), and made the mistake of telling her about it. And let me tell you, it was more than a crush - I pined for the dude for over a year. Then I noticed that she started flirting with him, and he eventually asked her on a date, which of course she accepted without any hesitation. Even still, i was her friend. But I'll never forget the day I ended things. We were in the gym locker room, changing for PE, and she started telling me about their date the previous weekend. She told me about how they were making out on her sofa. I told her that I really wasn't interested in hearing about it. Naturally, she went on, until finally his zipper was undone and he was "begging for it." I looked at her and very calmly said, "You know, I don't think I want to be your friend anymore." She acted like I'd thrown acid in her face, and I think it was because she could see in my eyes that I was serious and done with her. Oh, the histrionics! She cried, she yelled to all of the locker room that I'd just broken her heart and told her I didn't want to be friends again, etc. Some girls came up to her and hugged her; meanwhile, I just kept packing my gym clothes into my locker and tying my shoelaces, etc. One girl was actually blotting my ex-friend's tears and telling her that everything was going to be allright, she deserved better, etc. A couple of girls were giving me the stinkeye. My insides were on fire, I felt like I was going to hurl, but I was so proud of myself and felt free! After a few days, some girls told me they'd heard about it, and they were very sympathetic since they'd been on the receiving end of her bullsh** before.
I'm sorry this is so long, SF. I just wanted to say, get rid of her before she hurts you more because she will. She won't believe it when you tell her to bug off and you mean it. You sound like a smart girl - I don't know how old you are, but I'm assuming you're a teenager, or in college. There are many, many people just like you who cherish friends who come without drama and hysteria.
A funny thing - I'm 45 years old and now live about an hour away from where I grew up. This girl I was friends with, she now lives 5 minutes away from my house and her son is in the same grade as my daughter at the same school. The tall, blonde, thinnish teenager is now 45 and working her way through her second gastric bypass, and takes enough tranquilizers every day to kill a horse. She has no friends in town. Karma's a b*tch.

I'm ticked off today because of the large amount of animals being neglected in America.
I visited my local Animal Rescue League to walk some dogs, it's a shame to see so many animals in cages whimpering and barking. Some people really need to think about their choices. I cringe whenever I hear about a family getting a new dog and getting rid of it weeks later when the "thrill is gone and the reality sets in".

I cringe whenever I hear about a family getting a new dog and getting rid of it weeks later when the "thrill is gone and the reality sets in".
I hate hearing things like that. I currently have two dogs, had one since he was a puppy, and the other since he was 3. The newer one started off life as a gundog (he's a purebred Golden Retriever - he was bred for it) but he... let's just say he has issues. Anyway, he was abused because he was both nervous and hyper. My dad's friend "rescued" him, and he stayed with them for quite a while. I have to start referring to him by name - he's called Harley (Dad's friend's last name is Davidson). We looked after him once when he was 6 months old, for a fortnight when the Davidsons were on holiday, and most of that time was spent with all the doors in the car open, trying to get him to work up the courage to jump in the car himself without being scared (succeeded eventually :smile2:).
At some point, his nervousness changed into viciousness, and if he thought another dog could be a threat, he'd attack them first. This soon changed, if any dog came anywhere near him, he would attack them. Eventually his owners had enough when he began running after dogs to bite them. So they rehomed him. After one night, the lady gave him back, claiming she couldn't cope because he barked at her cats. So Dad's friend turned to us. We've had him for 3 years, and he's the friendliest, lovliest dog you could ever meet. He used to be terrified of men, tall people, and almost any other animal. Now he's totally besotted with my dad (who's both male and tall) and he's still a bit of a problem child with other dogs, but so much better than before.
Sorry to write you the essay, I just wanted to share his happy ending with you  I wish we could take in all the animals that need new homes, but two dogs, a cat, two rats and an aquarium is quite enough work for 3 people with full-time jobs and school

How old is she? As dogs age they get what are known as benign fatty tumors. Which are harmless unless it's in a spot that hinders them. Prayers being said that this is what Tess's tumor turns out to be.
I am ticked off today because: Some person mowed down the for sale sign in my yard!! Either they were drunk or they lost control because of our snowy roads. Either way they mowed it flat to the ground and sure didn't bother to stop! ( at least they didn't hit my explorer which was in the driveway) Grr it does not want to come up out of the frozen ground!

What Mookie said. :smile2: My dog has several that have developed over the past year that the vet has confirmed are fatty tumors. The vet said as long as they don't impede her movement or health in other ways, they don't need to be removed and don't seem to cause her any discomfort. It freaked me out the first time I felt one on her as I didn't know about dogs developing fatty tumors at the time. Am hoping that's all it will be for your dog.

Thank you Mookie and Ms Mod
Tess is 3 years old and she's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which I know can be prone to getting a few lumps and bumps. It's a very small lump at the moment, roughly pea sized so even if it is something nasty, we've caught it in the early stages.

6 year old fridge died in 2009 (multiple times), Dishwasher last year (2010), drier broke (well it just needed a new ignition switch), 3 year old pellet stove has had a few issues, and we had to fix the pilot light on the gas stove last year. That's more than 3, but it's surprising how many things can go wrong in a short period of time. And all these appliances are/were less than 7 years old.
If we replace everything now, we should be good for a couple more years.

My mother spent the equivalent of $600 on an electric cooker 15 moths ago. On Boxing Day--26th December--it broke down and unfortunately she misplaced her warranty so couldn't get it repaired free of charge. Somebody came to look at it and said it would cost almost as much to fix as to replace it, so she had to buy another new cooker. This time I filled out the warranty details online and have the proof stored safely in my email account. Ooh and the amount of money she spent on a supposed "frost free" refrigerator is ridiculous when I think of the amount of time I spend having to defrost it!
Drives me crazy that companies can charge so much money for appliances which are obviously not built to last or perform as well as claimed.
Sheesh, I really am ranting today...grrrr!:grr:

I had scheduled a Sears repair person to come work on our oven, with the plan of working at home in the morning and then going to the office later. I had scheduled the repair appointment online, getting the time slot of 8:00 to noon today. I thought it was odd that no one had called me back about it by yesterday, so I called Sears Repair today. After a bunch of stupid automated voice menus, I got a person who said they had no record of my appointment and he was going to transfer me to the Online Purchases division. Was promptly disconnected.
Called back, explained the situation to a different person who this time was successfully able to transfer me to Online Purchases. Had to re-explain the whole thing a third time, they said, yes, we do have you scheduled for a repair today. I said that's fine but why does the Repair group not know about this? So they re-connected me back to the original repair group I had called to begin with. Had to explain the whole situation a 4th time. Demanded to speak to a manager. Finally got a seemingly competent person who admitted that they have been having "a lot of problems with online repair scheduling". Gee, ya think so?
They apologize and say their records indicate the repair appointment was never scheduled (despite the Sears online purchase record showing my time slot and confirmation number and my name and address). The earliest they can see me is Thursday. Not tomorrow--NEXT Thursday.
I tell them to forget about it and call a local repair guy whose Yellow Page ad promises same day service. Probably more expensive than Sears, but I got right through to an actual person after one ring. He says they will come right up this afternoon.
Finally I call my boss and explain the whole thing to him and he says "Let's just call this one a sick day." Coolest boss on the planet!

Well, I thought I wouldn`t post in this thread anymore, but...
Not good, not good at all.
I got fired on Sunday.
There is no valid explanation, my former boss simply drove up to my car, told me to clean out my things, took my keys away and the taxi badge and told me to walk. He would not talk about anything else to me, he stayed mum on every single question I had...and so I walked.
The only explanation I can come up with is that the night before I had once again a fight with the Serbs.
They once again ignored my place in line, I got mad, told them to move to the back of the line, they started swearing at me, one of them told me " that this is the last night of me working as a cabbie"...and turns out, he was right.
I have no idea what he told to my ex-boss, what happened there, but it`s a private company, there is union, labor laws don`t apply, I have no one to complain to...and even if I did, I would not know what to say.
That I don`t fit in, poor people skills...WHAT?
A very hard blow for me and my family, I simply don`t know what to do now.
I am so stressed out that I actually started stuttering for the last three days...which has NEVER happened in my life, not even during the war.
I guess every man has his breaking point, and I guess I`m very, very close to it.
I can`t think straight, yesterday I started talking to my wife about something we actually discussed YEARS ago. She is very concerned and so am I, my mental state is not okay at all, and she suggested that I should maybe seek professional help, since I can`t eat as well...
All I do is stand on the balcony in damn near freezing weather and smoke one ciggie after another...and crying like a bastard, just like I am crying now.
I HAVE to take care of our baby, but other than changing her diapers, giving her food and letting her watch cartoons all day long...I can`t even talk to my little kid.
Not good, NOT GOOD AT ALL............................................... .........

Srbo, losing a job is one of the tougher things to go through from a mental/emotional standpoint, so on top of everything else that has happened in your past, your feelings are to be expected. This is not a time to withdraw. Listen to your wife and get some help. Things will get better, but you have to work at it. Trust me on this one, I've been there. If I lived anywhere near you, I would try to help you get a job. Since I can't do that from Pittsburgh, let me know what I can do for you. If you just want to sound off, send me a PM.

So sorry to hear about your job Srbo! I wish you good luck with everything.
What a day it's been. The roads are a mess due to multiple (or maybe infinite seems like a better word) frost heaves. This seems like an awful year for frost heaves. Has anyone else noticed this? This morning I broke a lower control arm on the front axle of my gram's car. I've been covering her newspaper delivery route for a couple weeks, and we rely on this vehicle. Luckily it's temporarily repaired, but will need a replacement control arm ASAP. I guess I'm lucky that's all that happened, and the wheel didn't fall off.
On top of this, the SUV we just paid off last month needs some transmission work. There's no third gear, and I gotta say I'm not impressed with the transmissions in these vehicles. Oh well... if it's not one thing, it's two. I just hope 2011 gets better. :smile2:

I am ticked off today because I was going to put a slice of processed cheese on some bread for a snack and my husband says 'You shouldn't eat that. It's bad for you. It's full of edible oil products... and modified milk ingredients. I'm just saying this because I don't want you to be sick.'
THEN, he goes and makes a hot chocolate for himself... which contains edible oil products... and modified milk ingredients. Something about the pot callin' the kettle black comes to mind.
Next time he gets snarky with me about my food I should remind him that I exercise a lot and how much does he exercise??? My main food criteria for the most part is to get something that I won't be allergic to, and it has to be something I like and it can't taste like it came outta the back end of a wildebeast.
Or perhaps, I should just get him to read the hot chocolate mix can's ingredient list next time.

On Sunday only a few hours before the Super Bowl I discovered my tire was flat. AGAIN. This just happened only a few months ago! It was the same wheel as the last time too, but unfortunately a different tire (they had been rotated), otherwise it might have been at least partially covered by warranty from the last time. My daughters started crying when they realized they weren't going to get to go shopping that afternoon, so my wife walked them up to the local convenience store while I put on the spare and went out for a new tire.

I called two oil companies today to have heating oil delivered to my house. Here's how the conversation went:
Me: Hi, I need $250 worth of oil delivered, please.
Mountain Oil: What's the name on the account?
Me: I don't have an account, I pre-pay in cash. I've been buying my oil from you for 5 years.
Mountain Oil: I'm sorry, ma'am, but unless you have an account, our minimum delivery is 150 gallons....right now, that will come to $378 before taxes
Me: But I only have $250
Mountain Oil: Have you tried to get help at Social Services?
Me: (loudly irritated) Excuse me??? You prefer to force someone to buy more than they need or can afford, PLUS have the community pay for it rather than take cash and deliver what is needed.....Just because I don't have a charge account with you???
Mountain Oil: I'm sorry, ma'am, that's our policy

I'm ticked off today because people call me and tell me they have X problem. I research, study, call friends that might be able to give me advice, sit down and try to figure out the best plan to help the person who asked for help. I tell them, the best plan I could figure out was to do A, B. C and 1, 2, 3, and it should turn out allright. A week later I get a call and they tell me they are having bigger problems and are worried sick. I ask, did you do A,B,C and 1,2, 3 and they say, No. It was to difficult, too time-consuming, etc.. Help me!.

Don't the creeps frickin' ruin everything for everybody?? Since I'm 11 years old, I can't count how many times I've had to put up with inappropriate comments, men standing next to me on the bus (as I'm sitting) and pressing their p**kers into my shoulders, pulling up alongside of me in cars as I'm walking to the store (at 12 years old!) and j***ing off, doing the same thing behind me in elevators, etc..... Okay, where you hanging out girl? How awful for you, ick. I know this is serious. And that is disgusting. Women need to start calling these weirdos out on this behavior like that lady did recently on the subway. Some guy flashed her and he counted on the politeness of women to not ruin his moment. Well, she went apes*it on his a**. I keep telling people this, but women need to read the book The Gift of Fear by Gavin deBecker. All women should read this. If you have daughters, they should read this for sure. We need to change the mindset of women and it starts with our young women.
The guy at the park, I hope you called the police and reported a suspicious weirdo. He may have only verbally assaulted you, but he's obviously looking for someone to take to the next level. Save someone and call and report that they need to watch this area closer.

I'm not really ticked off, just tired. Our maths teacher left last week, and we now have 3 teachers per week. One gave us 2 past papers to do, another gave us another past paper, and the last gave us a chapter from the textbook to do (because she treats us like idiots and takes far too long to get through the day's work, so we have to finish off what she doesn't get through at home).
We're off Thursday through Monday, and I went to school to help my friends with their art project, and I have dancing every Thursday night, today I was at my friend's trying to do this maths homework (took us 4 hours to do one of the papers), tomorrow I have volunteering from 9.30 till 5 (like every Saturday), then going to my friend's house to celebrate her birthday with pizza and a film. Sunday I'm going to my granny's because I haven't seen her for ages and she's sad because her dog and her neighbour died in the space of 2 days. Monday I'm helping my friend with a Geography project, then cramming for a German prelim on Wednesday. Then our prelims start officially the week after that... I'm stressing out :eek2:

I am waaaaay ticked off because our State Governor and legislators, in their infinite lack of wisdom, are trying to pull the same crap as Wisconsin and take away collective bargaining rights for public employees, including university faculty. My hubby teaches at a small state school. Among other things, the contract between the university and the union is the only thing that gives him any job security, as the university has no formal tenure system. He is a full professor, and has continuing contract (their version of tenure), but if this law passes, he would potentially have to go through an application process for tenure, which could be denied for any or no reason.
On top of this, they want to mess with our health insurance plan; they think it is too good. It's not like he makes a ton of money or anything; we are barely getting by, and he has to teach overloads and summer school if we want any extras (like vacation.)
Really, the collective bargaining process is the only reason we have anything at all. And the Republicans want to take it away. I also noted that there are protests up at the Capitol, and those turning out to support the bill are being bussed in by the Tea Party. Aren't these the same folks who want the government to leave them the hell alone??? But it's OK for government to engage in union-busting??? Is there a bit of a disconnect here someplace?

My car had a flat when I got to work yesterday. One of my co-workers has Triple A, so we called them to change the tire.
When the guy gets there, he starts telling me that my tires have dry rot, and that is the reason that the one tire went flat....he even points out little cracks on the wall surface of the tire.
He suggests that I bring the car to his garage and get a new set of tires.
Imagine his surprise when I told him that those brand new Michelin tires have a 60,000 mile warranty, and that I purchased them in November.....and that if they do indeed have dry rot, which is highly doubtful, my regular tire guy will be replacing them.
Turns out that I ran over a nail.....I had the tire repaired for ten dollars.

We are still trying to get the final bill taken care of for a new roof and siding on our house. We had a hail storm last May, signed a contract with a company in June, and they didn't complete the work until October, after they practiced such upstanding business ethics as lying, and not answering messages and all kinds of lovely things. We finally had to threaten them with the Better Business Bureau and the state consumer protection agency before we got anything done. Then from October to December we called at least once a week to get them to send a final bill.
We finally got the final bill at the end of December, I forwarded it to our insurance company and our mortgage company as they were both holding money for us. The mortgage company took their sweet time sending an inspector out to make sure the work was done, we got our insurance check right away. We call the mortgage company last week to find out what the hold up was sending us the money, and they inform us they had sent it out 3 weeks prior. We never received it, and it wasn't the first check they had reported missing, one of them was for $36,000. Not ours, but still, who sends thousands of dollars through the mail without any kind of tracking on it? So they said they would send us a new check, certified, gave us the original check number in case it ever showed up, and said we should have it by Wednesday. We still don't have it. I called them yesterday, and they don't know what happened to the second check!
The contractor is getting mighty pissy, which in turn makes me angry, after all the crap we went through to get them to do anything. I am so over all of this, I want it done and over with. This has drawn out for almost a year! I don't really know, being the first time we have ever had to deal with this kind of thing, but that just can't be normal. :grr::grr::grr:

I am so over all of this, I want it done and over with. This has drawn out for almost a year! I don't really know, being the first time we have ever had to deal with this kind of thing, but that just can't be normal. :grr::grr::grr:

Sounds like your mortgage company has serious problems. Can you go there in person and insist that a check be cut right then? It's often harder to ignore a customer standing right in front of you. And you could escalate up to the branch manager or main officer. Take all the documentation with you and don't let them put you off.

There isn't a local office here in my town, the office is 2 hours from us, so while that isn't terribly far, it is a hassle. We called them again this morning, and the person who handles the insurance stuff isn't even in today, so now I am even more upset, because she should have called me back yesterday. Really this is the first time we have had problems with them, when we needed half the insurance money up front to get the work going, they were right on top of it. They gave us advice throughout the whole process when we started having trouble with the contractor, even though technically that was a conflict of interest. (Which I don't really understand.) But really, they have been easy to deal with up to now, and the insurance company was great, we didn't have any problems with them.
What really bothers me about it is the fact that the contractor is behaving now like we are just skipping out on our bill, when our hands are tied, first with waiting on them to send an inspector, and then with the mess up with whatever happened with the checks. They know they haven't been cashed, because they haven't run through their bank, they are just lost. But I feel the contractor should give a little bit right now, when we have done everything the way we are supposed to, and he was far from professional the entire time. He complained to my husband that he was underwater because of all "you people" who haven't paid bills yet, and we are waiting for the money to be released! He should have thought about that before lying and trying to cheat us out of even more money, and not taking 6 months to do the job, then maybe this wouldn't be a problem now. Ugh.
Thank you for your suggestion, though, I appreciate it!

It's my birthday this week and I've accomplished nothing I wanted to do by the time I was 17... I don't want to grow up, where's that Peter Pan when you need him?

I'm ticked off because I have bad flu and I also had fever these last two days. And everytime I cough it hurt in my ribs. So now I wish it was over.

I am ticked off today because I appear to have caught another coworker's stomach flu.

Because my favorite news show, BBC America World News has been taken off thee BBC channel and moved to PBS. They chopped the show to 30 minutes and it's on at 5:30 now instead of 7:00. The 5:30 time makes it tough for me to see.

I just need to vent.
* I had to go for an abdominal ultrasound to see if my bladder cancer is back for a return engagement. This means spending more time than you want to think of with a VERY full bladder, then having someone PUSH ON IT with the ultrasound want. NOT fun.
* A brother-in-law is now in hospital with blood clots in his lungs and one in his leg; he and my sister in law have a five-year-old with mild autism and a three year old
* My other sister-in-law has some sort of scar tissue appearing in her eye that is deeply concerning her.
* I have a million things to get done, and I feel utterly knackered.
ENOUGH. Gah. I'm going to watch an interesting documentary on evolution and have a Scotch.

my daughters 'best friend' was a no-show on an assignment they had to do together & had been studying on for weeks...which lowered her grade considerably...
kudos, tho, for her: she at least tried to go on w/o the partner

If LOL and OMG can be considered actual words in a dictionary, why not coffeed? :smile2:
