I saw "Lincoln" yesterday and was highly impressed. Don't expect a lot of action (this is a talky movie about 19th century politics), but it was very compelling and the performances were excellent, particularly Daniel Day Lewis in the starring role.

I'm predicting now that 'Lincoln' will sweep the Oscars next year. Haven't seen it (yet) but judging from the trailers this is one that the voters are going to love.

Watched 'Confession', a 2005 movie that starred Chris Pine (Captain Kirk in the last Star Trek movie). Not the best movie, but it was fun to see such a young Chris Pine and see how he's grown in his acting abilities. There was a surprise appearance from the guy that played Ritchie Cunningham's dad on Happy Days!!

Received my copies of Victor Victoria on dvd and The Towering Inferno on blu-ray from Amazon the other day. Watched Victor Victoria on Saturday night and Inferno last night. Inferno still holds up (if you can get over the really bad mid-seventies fashions and hairstyles and the fact that OJ Simpson is in it). Great special effects! Amazing what they did back in the day before CGI came along!!!!!

Twixt.

It's really, really weird. My step-brother in Europe sent it to me. Apparently it's not here. It's written and directed by Francis Ford Coppala (sp?) and filmed on his estate.

I would highly recommend it but I warn you - it's bizarre. I don't know where the journey took me but I sure did enjoy it.

Speaking of the awesome Christopher Walken, I saw Biloxi Blues the other night. I had never seen this one and I think it's from the late 80s. I think I probably skipped it because it was a Neil Simon movie and I was all Neil Simoned out in the late 80s. But it is a very good flick about a kid going into the army at the tail end of WWII. Walken plays a rather eccentric drill sergeant that was both hilarious and kind of frightening at the same time. Very good flick.:y:

pet semetary - did not like...boring, badly acted, drab, not involving...only fred gwynne comes anywhere near close to offering up a performance...i remember not liking this adaption at the time, i had hope that by rewatching, all these years later, something might've made more sense, but no : hasn't helped...all of the scenes with the undead church and the undead gage lack any sort of real emotional or suspenseful engagement
; a grown man fighting with what is clearly/often nothing more than a stuffed doll is not scary in the slighest...this needs to be redone with a competent cast and a more than competent director...

silver bullet - now this was 100% better than the above mentioned piece of trash...well acted for basically a b-movie...nicely directed, for the most part: still, it has some awkward moments...AND the single worst werewolf/werewolf transformation this side of one of the billion, rancid howling movies ('cepting, acourse, the first, which, omho, is a classic on every level)...luckily, much of the rest of the movie works: too bad they screwed the pooch when it came to sinking dinero into the one thing that could've...um...transformed this into a minor classic. kings script is at toimes interesting...at times too sophmoric...but there's a gem of a great idea there, nice way to waste an hour or so...

the amazing spiderman - nice...ho hum...some scenes were nice...some acting was nice...cgi sucked big gigantic rotten dodo eggs...doesn't replace a hair on the first raimi version...dudes should've just taken a page outta james bond, recast and went forward: we did not need a reboot/revision: for me...this added nothing...nothing spectacular...been there, done that, yawn, ho hum, indeed

The Amazing Spiderman - I didn't expect it to be so good. I'm not really sure why they needed to go back to the beginning again so soon after the first Tobey Maguire version just a few years ago. My only complaint is that much of the movie is familiar from the Tobey Maguire version. But, I really did like the way they made Spiderman seem a little more like an unpredictable teenager in this one. The actor that played Spiderman is 29 years old so I'm not sure how many more of these he has left. How long can you play a 17 year old?

Superman Returns - I skipped this one a few years ago because I was sure I wouldn't like it. I was wrong, it's very good. It picks up after Superman has been gone for a few years and returns to Earth. Kevin Spacey is magnificent and mean as hell as Lex Luthor.

i was excited for supes, back in the day...loved the way singer very much channeled the 'feeling' of a donner flick...my only wish was that they had come up with something very different for luthor to do: the story, itself, was too similar to his first bout...back-in-the-day

the new one looks interesting..still...it appears, once more, we get another 'origin' story...

just watched the new Conan movie...nice..cheap looking, but nice...better cgi than spiderman...jason momoa was quite a pleasant surprise...but i feel they went with a rather lame script...felt more like a tv movie than a sweeping, gigantic saga...like the first arnie had, way back in the mists of time....

carrie...the original, depalma vers....forgot how really good this one is...the new one will have to try very hard to be better...just tons of daring choices made throughout...a very adult take and all did excellent: one of the best king adaptions ever

in bruges...wow ! what a cool little film...i'd heard alot about it, kept passing on it...wish i hadn't...every scene had some sort of surprise: whether it was the way the actors portrayed thier characters, or the script...it just kept dancing and flitting about like a prize fighter, daring you to see were it might dash to next...great little movie

21 Jump Street - hilarious. I never saw the TV show but I don't think the TV show was a comedy. The filmmakers take the premise of the show (cops going undercover in high school) and made a very funny comedy out of it. Johnny Depp makes a hilarious cameo also. Here is a great line from the movie that will tell you all you need to know:

The police Captain is explaining to the two detectives going undercover what the operation is:

"We're reviving a canceled undercover project from the '80s and revamping it for modern times. The people behind this lack creativity and they've run out of ideas, so what they do now is just recycle sh*t from the past and hope that nobody will notice."

Anything where Jonah Hill is involved in the writing is usually very funny. And like every other Jonah Hill movie, this is not for the kids.

That reminds me of a funny story. When 21 Jump Street was on, I never saw the show and had no idea who Johnny Depp was. Early in Johnny's career, Johnny was cast in the John Waters movie, Crybaby. Anyway, I wanted to see the new John Waters movie and I went to the theater by myself one rainy Saturday afternoon to see it. I think I just happened to be there on the opening weekend. So anyway, I had no idea who Johnny was or how popular he was or who he was popular with, I just wanted to see the new John Waters movie. I found myself in a theater full of smitten teenage girls who were all yelling at the screen every time he was on. I felt really weird when I realized I was this lone 30 year old guy in the middle of all of these teenage girls. I got very self conscious that I looked like some kind of pervert.:biggrin2:

The Apparition. Though I did not really like it when I watched it in the movies for the first time, this time I liked it better. I guess it is the kind of movie that is better to watch at home. There is nothing absolutely new in the movie, but it is still pretty creepy.

The Hobbit is a children's tale so my expectations for it, in comparison to the LOTRs, were modulated accordingly. From that perspective I found The Hobbit a wonderful adventure story.

I did it in HFR and recommend anyone that is planning to, adjust your expectations. 48fps brings a whole new paradigm to theater viewing. This is akin to going from silent movies to talkies or from B&W movies to color. Don't go in treating it as a HD version of a movie because you will assuredly be disappointed, distracted, and probably leave the theater downright disliking it.

Rather go in with the mindset that you are seeing a live performance with all the attendant bells and whistles that a movie brings. The clarity is startling. I treated it like seeing a play and the level of immersion was something I have never experienced in a movie theater.

There are occasional moments of seemingly sped up motion but they were very rare and never took me out of the picture.

I must reiterate the level of immersion was fantastic. I walked away from my HFR viewing feeling not like I had watched The Hobbit but that I had lived it.

A fantastic experience.

I will be doing a regular 2D viewing for comparison but right now I am very eager to see other films in this new format.

The most recent movie I have watched that I had not already seen was Dark Shadows. I didn't love or hate it, it just left me needing more. I had not watched the 1970's series nor did I watch the 1990's attempt to bring the series back so maybe that would have helped if I had more of a back-story. A little cheesy for my tastes and probably not one I will re-watch but ~meh~ like I said, I didn't hate it.

Yesterday I watched Pulse (2006). I was really disappointed. I was so excited to see the movie after I watched the trailer, but the movie turned out to be not so good in the end, it is not scary at all, and it does not arise any emotions, just a usual movie, the kind you forget about right after watching it.

Prometheus - Despite it's flaws, I really liked it

This is kind of a prequel to Alien. Ridley Scott directed this and like all of Ridley's movies, it looks great. The problem is that this is an intelligent story with really dumb scientist characters. The scientists seemed to skip "Contamination 101" in school. If you can look past the stupid scientists, it's a good flick.

Midnight In Paris - Superb. This is the best Woody Allen movie in years and one of his very best. Ever since Woody got too old to be in his movies, he still writes a part for himself he just uses a different actor to play it. Most of the time, you can pick the character out because it looks like someone doing a Woody Allen impersonation. For this movie, Owen Wilson plays the Woody character and does a better job than anyone has done in that part.

The story is about a screen writer (Owen) and his fiance visiting Paris. The screen writer considers himself to be a hack and wants to try something more meaningful and is working on a novel. He is very unsure of himself and his talents. He is walking one night in Paris and discovers a rabbit hole where he is transported back to the 20's and finds himself hanging out with Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Hemmingway, Picaso and all the other famous artists from that period. That's all I'm going to tell you - see it! :y:

"Bad Santa" with Billy Bob Thornton, which has now been added to the Annual Christmas viewing traditions in our house.
A very funny, but irreverent story of an alcoholic department story Santa. It's a great film but not suitable for anyone easily offended by strong language, or sexual content.

Next up is Alistair Sim in "Christmas Carol", followed by "It's A Wonderful Life", but only if it snows!
Which here in the UK is looking highly unlikely this year.

I haven't had much time for Christmas movie watching. My boss has me stuck on night shift the whole week before Christmas so I've only gotten two Christmas films in. The first was the 1938 version of Christmas Carol. Not my favorite, but it's okay. Drive - with Ryan Gosling.

Very good. It is not the kind of movie I was expecting. Just from the title and trailers I saw, it looked more like a non-stop action movie but it is a more of a slow burner that heats up in the last half. It's more a character driven flick and has some awesome performances like Bryan Cranston's.

Ryan Gosling is one of those actors that chooses his parts well (at least to my taste). It seems like every movie that he is in is very good.

Recently I've watched two movies:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was good to watch it again, Jack Sparrow always makes me laugh, he is great. And the movie is one of my favorites.

2. Grave Encounters. First time viewing. It turned out to be a great movie, I loved it so much... It looks a lot like Paranormal Activity, but in fact, it is even better, they managed to take all the best features of such horror movies and they made a great new movie. Besides, it really made me scared, which is not so simple... I will definitely watch it again.

The sets and costumes all looked too 'new' to me, like they had just threw everything hastily together and called it good. I haven't read any of the books myself, so didn't really know what to expect. Plotline is good tho, reminds me of 'The Long Walk' for some reason. Those who have read the books, are they like the 'Harry Potter' books where each volume matures from being a kid's book to an adult one?

Re-watched Kubrick's 'The Shining' two nights ago. Have to say, while this movie is so unlike the book, it really does have it's moments! Brilliantly filmed! I've seen this movie probably 5 times over the years (saw it when it was originally released in the theater way back when) and each time it gets creepier. Don't know if it was the fact of seeing it on a 40" flatscreen tv with surround sound, but it really got under my skin!

Les Miserables.

I will go ahead and say that I feel it is MUCH MUCH stronger than the stage version. They added material from the book (which is my favorite book, actually) and changed where a couple of songs were. The plot felt a lot tighter than the original production.

After seeing it twice, I am actually ok with all of the casting choices they made. I was originally a little iffy about Russel Crowe, but in the end, I like his contrast to the rest of the cast.

I will also add that my husband, who despises musicals and serious dramas, liked this movie. He saw it because I am a book fangirl, and he's a sweet guy. He thought all of the acting was spot on, which it is, and the story surprisingly compelling, despite being something he is completely uninterested in.

Shawshank last night. I think it is the fifth viewing, and with each I'm more amazed at the acting--Robbins and Freeman are absolute favorite performances--casting (though, imho Clancy Brown as Captain Hadley is almost too evil-looking), direction and screenwriting, but mostly at the brilliance of the story. I know I'll never tire of this movie.

Unfortunately, they could not repeat this success with the second part of the movie, I really hoped they would do it good. Well, if I were to advise the movie, I would advise to watch the first part, but not to watch its sequel.

I saw Django Unchained at a locally owned theater, the Crescent with my brother the other night while he was in town.. in some ways it reminded me of that Boondocks episode 'The Story of Catcher Freeman', but not that much. Sam Jackson has done guest voices for the Boondocks. He pulls off an incredible role in this movie. You can't even believe it's him. Django Unchained is classic top-drawer Tarantino, darkly hilarious at first, then mostly dark after that, though, as usual, Tarantino gives himself one of the best lines or deaths in his movies. It's a great historical fantasy, a little six-gun John Brown and y'all should go see it.

Really? I was really disappointed by the 3D effects, or should I say the lack of effects. And the acting was absolutely atrocious. I had high hopes for this movie and felt let down. The guy sitting next to me was fun to listen to, though, he kept screaming and asking his friend if he could go sit in the car because he was f'ing scared! Whereas I was sitting asking my friend when they were going to start killing people in interesting ways. Nowt as queer as folk.

Anyhoo, we went to see Les Miserables on Saturday, absolutely amazing movie! Worth seeing if only for Anne Hathaway's performance of 'I Dreamed a Dream'...no other version will ever compare now. She made me cry.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows

I loved this one and the previous Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey. If you're a Sherlock Holmes purist, go into these films with an open mind because these movies are very unconventional adaptations. These are action flicks and they are a lot of fun. Just don't expect Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's version.

Sheryl and Michael are married, he gets in a car accident and when she goes to the hospital she finds out that he's been having affairs all thru their marriage, then she enacts her revenge on him by chaining him to the floor in their basement. That movie was terrible. I've always enjoyed the PA movies and expected this one to give us answers about Katie and Hunter...it didn't. Awful story, with bad acting to match.

Finally watched Jack Reacher the other night. I was willing to give Cruise a chance in the lead role but he just didn't work for me. So yeah, it's been at least a year since I've posted here, but I decided to start posting again. Fun.

Anyway, the last movie I watched was To (2009), a computer animation movie that was in two, unrelated parts. While the animation was, for the most part, amazing, it didn't have all that good of a story behind it. All the characters seemed flat, and no amount of great animation could make the movie amazing if it didn't have a good story. Overall, I give it a 3/10.

John Carter was on Starz yesterday. I've wanted to see this movie since it was panned so much when it came out in theaters. I think I know now why it was universally hated. It was not your typical Disney movie. It was NOT for children and it was WAY over so many heads. The movie was based on an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel entitled "A Princess of Mars" written in 1917. I thought they did a very good job bringing this book to the big screen. Maybe Disney wasn't the way to go. If anyone else had done it there might have been a different outcome. Doesn't matter to me who does a movie. I just love this science fiction/fantasy kind of crap and I wish there was more of it being done.

Not a movie, but excellent documentary (in regards to what is going on primarily here locally where I live and also the world) that should be required viewing... "FrackNation." Watched it last night on Mark Cuban's AXS channel last night (it's being shown again Saturday at noon). Riveting content, although too much focus on local farmers. About cheap, safe, environmentally friendly, and abundant energy that could help with world energy needs for hundreds of years... being stopped, curtailed and held up... by decisions based on lies. Interesting also how the documentary was made using funds from average people through Kickstarter. Highly recommended!

I really like The Mist because the creators were nearly 100% faithful to the book, because the special effects were truly terrifying and precisely how I'd visualized in the book, because the creatures they created were exceptionally well-conceived, and for others reasons I'm sure. ...will anybody ever make a good horror movie again?!\

You know, that is a very good question. Sitting here reading this I am trying to think of a truly good horror movie that has come out in recent years and I'm having some trouble. You really don't get good horror from the major Hollywood studios anymore because they're mostly just interested in churning out remakes to make a quick buck, and the few originals they do produce are pretty limp. Independent films are the way to go because you're getting films made by people who passionate about the genre. But you still have to search through a lot of junk to find the good stuff. Really, the movies that I've enjoyed the most recently that are classified as horror are actually as much comedy as horror. Here's a few movies that I've really enjoyed in recent months and would recommend to anyone:

I Sell The Dead - An enjoyable little horror/comedy about grave robbers. Reminded me a bit of my beloved 1960's Hammer films
Suck - A Canadian rock and roll horror comedy about vampires. Quite funny and even has some good music in it, as well as cameos from several notable rock music persons. Also has Malcolm McDowell which
is always a plus.
Burke and Hare - Based on a pair of historically famous grave robbers, starring Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis. A nice little black comedy that is also quite Hammer like. Directed by John Landis who shows
that he hasn't lost his touch.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil - Hilarious slasher film parody. Loved it.
The Cottage - Slasher film and black comedy with Andy Serkis. Quite amusing.

Have any of you seen these films? I would recommend these highly, but as I said, they are as much comedies as horror. As for a straight out and out good horror film, I'm drawing a blank.

I watched 5 movies at the weekend:

1. Silent Hill: Revelation. Watched this movie in the theater two months ago, now finally re-watched it. Well, my opinion has not changed, they could have made it much, much better, considering how much noise they were making over it.

2. The Butterfly Effect. Great movie, makes me think about the things I would like to change in the past sometimes, and after watching the movie I realize that things go the way they should, if anything is changed in the past, it may involve absolutely unpredictable things in the present. Every trifle leaves a mark on our lives, and every trifle is as important. Wonderful movie.

3. Paranormal Activity 4. I thought it would be worse, given that I did not really like the third part. But this one is rather good. It is not as scary as the first one, but it is not bad. Sure, nothing is perfect, some things in it could be better, but that's okay the way it is.

4. Veronica Decides to Die. Good movie, makes me think about the meaning of life itself.

5. Dead Silence. Very quality horror movie, it is really scary, creepy and terrifying. And the story itself is very interesting, really worth watching.

Yeah, I agree about Marcia Gay Harden- just her scene, when she's in the bathroom praying and the other lady walks in on her, alone is one of the best examples of fine acting at it's best! She certainly scared the crap out of me! She made the character of Carmody as scary as what was outside in the mist and she didn't go over the top to do it!

Latest movies I saw:

White Squall- directed by Ridley Scott with a cast of mostly unknowns (at the time) and all put in great performances. Jeff Bridges is the star and he is always good. I picked up a bluray copy for only $2 at a used bookstore and couldn't pass it up. Saw this years ago and even tho I knew where it was headed it was still a good movie!

Marvin's Room- starring Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton and a young Leonardo DiCaprio. A very good heart-warming movie that disappeared from the theaters quickly, not because of it's actors but more for the storyline. Meryl plays a single Mom of two boys who must return to her home that she left over 20 years ago to help take care of her invalid (God, I hate that word!) Dad and her sister who has just found out that she has leukemia. For such a sad subject matter, there is alot of humor in it. Great acting by all!

So, I take it you're not going to watch the new one - 'S-VHS'?

I re-watched my all-time favorite movie The Godfather... but this was my first time watching it on blu-ray. It's one of the few films to which I've memorized pretty much all the lines. Kind of makes me want to re-read the book, but I got too much to read already and no room for re-reads at the moment.

If it wasn't almost one in the morning I'd give The Godfather Part II a view, but I guess that will have wait until tomorrow.

Just saw the trilogy is listed on Amazon on bluray for only $24.99!! Liked the first two films but Coppola made a HUGE mistake casting his daughter in the third film (I know Wynona Rider backed out at the last minute and he was stuck in a bad place, but this took nepotism alittle too far) - she's a much better director than an actress!!

I got it the blu-ray collection for 17.99. :y: I don't recall Sophia Coppola's role all that much. So it must've been pretty a forgettable role to me. I will say that I do like the third one overall, but I do have a few gripes about the movie and I honestly can't say that about the first two films.

Thanks for the recommendation Bev, saw the trailer for this last night so will definitely check it out when it's released. Well, I say "saw" the trailer, which isn't really true. If I know I definitely want to watch a movie I never look at the trailers--and usually block my ears--so as not to ruin anything when I actually watch the movie. Cuckoo, but it works for me. :wink2:

I had seen this a long time ago but probably just on regular TV. I rented the blu-ray and gave it a proper viewing. One of the best films ever, everyone should see this one.

King Of California - Michael Douglas

Why is it the small independent films seem to have the market cornered on dysfunctional family stories?:biggrin2: Anyway, this is another one but it is an excellent flick. Michael Douglas really shines in this part. Michael's character has been away in a mental facility for a couple years and reunites with his 17 year old daughter when he gets out. He has been reading about a lost treasure buried in California and is determined to track it down. Is he crazy? You have to see the movie to find out.

I watched the original version of Scarface last night. The main character played by Paul Muni is named Tony Camonte (not Tony Montana) and is essentially the fictional stand-in for Al Capone. For those who have never seen this version... if you can sort of adjust to the stereotypical portrayal of Italians who "talk-a-like-a-this-a" and the frequent use of the word "see?" after each sentence then you'll see this movie for the granddaddy of gangster films it is. Classic.

I think it may have been Rear Window (one of my favorites) or End of the Watch (thumbs up.) I have seen Rear Window more times than I can count, but I can't help myself. Just the set alone is reason enough to watch it, but it has a damn fine plot and excellent acting. Say what you will about Hitchcock, he had outrageous skills. What a surprise, this movie was very good and funny. It's about a good old fashion hockey goon. For those of you who don't know what a goon is, they are the guys on the hockey team that are there to protect the stars. They can't play hockey very well but they can bust heads when they are called upon to do so. WARNING - this movie is pretty bloody and violent for a comedy (kind of like hockey:biggrin2:). Also there is a lot of bad language (like at a hockey game:biggrin2:).

I recently read the Ross MacDonald novel, "The Moving Target" and thought it was excellent. I discovered that there was a 1966 movie called "Harper" starring Paul Newman that was based on the novel so I decided to check it out.

This is worth seeing. Paul Newman is great as Lew Harper (changed from Archer). This movie is a pretty faithful adaptation of the book. Shelly Winters is really good in a rather self depreciating role (I think she liked that kind of role). Anyway, it's an excellent old detective movie. WARNING - Contains lots of weird 1966 dancing :biggrin2:

Newman also starred in another MacDonald adaptation called "The Drowning Pool" (1974). I haven't seen that one but plan on searching for it.

I haven't seen either of those, but they've been on my radar for a while. Unfortunately, in this day and age it is nigh impossible to avoid previews. On dvd you have the luxury of skipping past them, but in a theater you are bombarded with 10-15 minutes of previews before the movie starts. Of course you can close your eyes and put your hands over your ears and make loud noises so you can't hear them, but then they just ask you to leave the theater.

My friend and I just sit and talk--quietly--throughout the trailers so it is possible to avoid them. Quite a few people still talk during the trailers, and are coming into the theatre, so I've never encountered a problem with this, it's only talking throughout the movie that's a big no~no.

The Dyatlov Pass Incident. I was so looking forward to see the movie... Well, it was nice in the beginning, very well-done. But in the end it got really awful, it was just too much: too much blood, and too much fiction, the creators' imagination was just too big for this movie, as a result they finished by making one of the most disgusting movies I have ever seen.

The Uninvited. I decided to re-watch this movie to see how it is when I know the ending. It is okay, anyway, actors are great, the movie is really shocking... Sure, it is more fun when watching it for the first time, as you do not know the ending.

Jeff Fahe is fun as usual, pulling out of his mixed bag of characters yet another variation.... he's been a washed-up airline pilot on LOST, a serial killer, and in this, a heroic greasy-spoon joint owner. Speaking of LOSTies, Naveen Andrews makes an appearance also, as does Bruce Willis. And singer Fergie too, although she's zombie food right very close to the start, being feasted on by Tarantino and others in the middle of the road late at night.

Then there's Cheech and Chong, and as one of the bonus features you get to see Shelby Chong, Tommy's wife, do her own opening stand-up monologue, a reminder of Tommy's brush with da law over the bongs sold online with his likeness pictured thereupon. Tommy plays guitar on a pot-smokin' blues song as you can imagine would be featured on a show like this, and brings back to recollection the fact that, hey, he's a pretty decent string-slinger. Though Cheech pulls out an acoustic and reprises his Tex-Mex country singer routine, among so many others. And of course he gets into his tutu getup and does "Earache My Eye". Back in the bonus features, Tommy surprisingly says cocaine bad, pot good. The latter I expected, but not the former. All in all a pleasantly smoke-wreathed journey down memory lane.

Planet Terror is great.

I saw Cheech and Chong live when I was 18. I think it was right before "Up In Smoke" was released and they were still doing the stage stuff.

Two Minute Warning (1976) Charleston Heston :n: Spoilers ahead

I ran across this one on netflix streaming. I had never heard of it before. The story is about a sniper at a big football game (aka Super Bowl but they don't call it that in the movie). This movie is so strange because it goes into great detail about the victim's lives and says nothing about the sniper or the motives. You don't know if it's a terrorist, a disgruntled employee or a nut case. They don't even show the sniper except for some quick far off glimpses. This movie is done in "70's disaster movie" style like the Towering Inferno or Poseidon Adventure. The first half of the movie introduces you to all the victims and then they get picked off one by one in the 2nd half. You pretty much know right from the beginning what is going to happen and no reason is ever given. Very odd.

A movie about two cops filming thier routine, one for his film class that he's taking, who stumble across a cartel's big surge of drugs and human trafficking. A startlingly heartfelt, humorous, and yes, ultimately depressing tale of gang warfare in the inner-city. "End of Watch."

Watched Skyfall on Saturday. I've liked most of the Bond movies but this one didn't work for me.
Was to boring. Almost fall asleep before the movie was even halfway.

Picked up a bluray of Twelve Monkeys a week or so ago and watched that last night. Hadn't seen it in quite a few years, it still holds up!! Brad Pitt is hysterical to watch in this! Started watching the documentary that is on the 'extras' but after two hours of that I had to turn it off. Interesting stuff, but I think it's going to end up being longer than the actual film!!

My wife and I saw Argo...I think that's the title of it...about the hostages in Iran? Was in the service at the time...well, actually I got out shortly before, August 1st, hallelujah & amen, the happiest (almost) day of my life. My ship was probably there in the I.O. tailing the Kitty Hawk or the Enterprise, 2,000 yards back...or perhaps that distance to one side or the other...ready to take one for the big guy...so...I was glad I was not there and I commiserated w/my old shipmates, wrote them a letter...I'm alive and doing fine (in Duluth, Minn-ee-soooota)...(at the time)...there were all these carriers backed up near Duluth harbor...what with the embargo going on...grain carriers, tandem-box trucks lined up from one side of Duluth through Superior, Wisconsin. All that grain headed to the U.S.S.R...which is a great hit from the Beatles...headed to the U.S.S.R.!

I wish that actor...Ben Afflack?...isn't that the insurance? I wish he'd have showed a bit more emotion...he seemed rather...out of it? Not involved? There was that one time where he cussed, got a little emotional, and he was perfect during those moments when he was under the gun...which is a great hit from Mick and the boys...under my gun!

Went to the movies to see Mama. That was good. Really, a good horror movie, nothing new, but rather scary and interesting. I wish there were more good horror movies like that.

Saw the new Die Hard, A Good Day to Die Hard. I was sitting in the office on a very slow day, bored out of my gourd, and thought I would just take in a movie. I have seen all of the Die Hards and enjoyed them. They are fun movies and good shoot 'em ups. This one was no exception. If you are looking for something fun, this might be the movie for you.

I've been in a Turner Classic Movies mood this morning. Watched Stage Fright, an old Hitchcock I'd not seen, and now Tension with Richard Basehart. I'll stop after this one. I gotta go shopping.

Sinister. I do not know why so many people say they love the movie and it is like the most scary movie they've ever seen. For me it was extremely boring and not scary at all... It is a pity.

It was high time to take a break from writing last night and I watched The Shawshank Redemption and The Shining. I still believe King's screenplay was probably better than Kubrick's. I didn't like the hedge 'maze' and think with the proper, not overly done graphics, hedge animals would have been better.

"Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" I was skeptical at first but all in all it was a very good movie. It had me jump a few times which is very rare for me and the FX were amazing in my opinion. I hope they come out with a sequel!
