Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows. It's good as all HP movies, I liked it. I liked even that this movie is more dark and even scary...though, it's a pity it's not a nice fairy tale for children anymore.

Mirrors 2. It's one more movie on my list of bad films. It's just awful, excuse me for being sincere here...But it is so. I loved the first movie, it's one of my favorite horrors, in fact. And I expected the second one to be just like that, and sure I didn't expect it could turn to be so bad. Okay, watching it once was alright, but no way I ever watch it again!

I finally watched Shawshank Redemption in its entirety for the first time. I've seen it many times, but I always seem to miss out on the very beginning. I read it for the first time a couple months ago. I don't think I could ever get sick of the story, it is excellent.

I also re-watched The Shining (Kubrick's version). I remember being disappointed with it the first time I saw it, but the second time around I didn't mind it as much. Although I think the TV version is a much better portrayal of the story.

Made in Dagenham .... it was on the plane on the way home yesterday and I thought it was fantastic.

It is the story of a group of women machinists at the Ford Factory in Dagenham who were reclassified as unskilled workers so their pay could be cut.
They were the first women to strike ever in the UK .... Brilliant movie and showed just how tough it was for women in the sixties....

Thoroughly recommend it !!!!

Really??????

This was posted to the Internet Movie DataBase by a Paul Pensom from London:

Man: "You know we're always saying we could use 50 million dollars?

Woman: "Yes"

Man: "Well I have a cunning plan."

Woman: "What's that then?"

Man: "First of all we need to find an aeronautics engineer working in a foreign country, with a child, and an encyclopedic knowledge of the layout of a particular long-haul plane."

Woman: "Why's that?"

Man: "Well then, you see, we murder her spouse, in such a way as it looks like an accident."

Woman: "What for?"

Man (exasperated): "Well then of course, we bribe the mortuary assistant at the hospital into letting us place explosives inside the casket."

Woman: "But why?"

Man: "I'm coming to that. Then we wait until the woman decides to return the the U.S."

Woman: "But what if she doesn't?"

Man: "She just will, okay? So anyway, when she decides to return home we find out what flight she's on. Hopefully she is not only placed on the type of plane of which she has encyclopedic knowledge, and flying with the airline of which you're a flight attendant, but also on the same flight as her dead husband's casket. Are you following?"

Woman: "I think so."

Man:"Good, we're nearly there. Then all we need to do is falsify the checking-in information to remove all record of her daughter, make sure she gets on the plane half an hour before everybody else, ensure there is a row of empty seats behind her and get me on the flight, sitting nearby."

Woman: "And then?"

Man (laughing): "Now this the cunning part. She takes the empty seats, allowing her daughter to sit in the aisle seat, then when she goes to sleep, all I have to do is steal a food trolley, stuff the daughter into it and hide her in the hold. Oh, and did I mention that we must ensure that nobody on the entire plane sees the daughter?"

Woman: "Isn't this getting a little far fetched?"

Man (angry): "What do'you mean? It's a great plan? All I have to do then is remove the child's boarding pass from wherever the mother is keeping it without waking her, assist her search for the missing child in the guise of an Air Marshal, convince the captain that the woman is mad and that the child died with her father (through a forged note from the mortician), and wait for the mother to escape from my custody.

Woman:"Escape, why?"

Man: "Because the casket can only be unlocked by her, so once she's unlocked it I can set the timer on the explosives. From there we're home and dry. I merely have to recapture her, convince the captain that she's actually not mad but a hijacker who wants 50 million dollars and give the Captain our account number, asking him to ensure the money is paid straight in. Oh, Then we land, everybody gets off the plane, I shoot the mother and blow up the daughter and nobody is any the wiser. We walk away with a cool 50 million. Simple eh?"

Stand By Me has to be one of my favourite films of all time. I wish the ending wasn't different in the film though - although it was so sad to hear that all the characters died in the book, what was the point in including the moons and goochers bit when all but one of them survived in the film?

Gulliver's Travels - less awful than I expected. Suprisingly, Jack Black isn't the worst thing in it - Emily Blunt is awful.

Love And Other Drugs - NOT a comedy, although often quite funny. I enjoyed it, although not convinced by the ending. I hope Anne Hathaway makes more movies like this, call me selfish, I don't care.

The Next Three Days - tolerable thriller, although I preferred the French original.

The Way Back - impressive, but a bit impersonal - we needed to get to know them all a lot quicker.

I watched Black Swan last night. It was...good. I think Natalie Portman is one of the most beautiful actresses today, so that helps, but she's so petite in the movie, it disturbs me slightly. The movie was a bit slow at times (I thought it could do with an injection of Jack Black to lighten things up, but I always think a movie will improve with Jack Black), but it was definitely interesting. Worth watching.

I watched Exit Through the Gift Shop, a documentary about street artists, focusing on the awesome British artist Banksy. The ending was amazing, but I don't want to ruin anything. Suffice to say it was the best movie I've seen in a while, better than Black Swan or True Grit.

Also, I'm not sure if it is a real documentary or an elaborate prank by Banksy. I looked it up online and found mixed things regarding it, some people positive it is real, others positive it is fake. Not Banksy himself--he is a real artist, although no one knows who he actually is--but if the ending and, entire movie are real. If it is fake, it is a much better fake than the Blair Witch, which I never thought was real.

I watched "Dune" on blu-ray. What a horrible adaptation of a great book. This movie is a case where there is just too much story to try and cram in a movie. If you've not read the book, I highly recommend it. It's a very slow read though because there is a big vocabulary in the front of the book that you have to keep referring to as you read the story. It's worth the trouble though.

I watched a couple of horror movies this weekend.

Train - the worst of the flicks I saw. A torture porn movie with Thora Birch. I hated this movie.

The Burrowers - surprising blend of western and horror. Has Clancy Brown from Shawshank in it, and Doug Hutchison from Green Mile. The monsters in it look kinda lame, but still decent overall.

Trick 'r Treat - my favorite of the three. Some clever writing, and it's not as utterly depressing as The Burrowers. It doesn't take itself so seriously. I'm amazed that this film didn't get a theatrical release. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes fun horror flicks. A hidden jewel!

"The King's Speech."

Amazing movie, I truly can't fault it in any way. No need to rely on special effects or overly dramatic storylines, just a true story portrayed by extremely talented actors. Yeah, that's the one. I can stomach the gore, I don't flinch or anything, but it was just pointless. Besides one or two brief scenes (seeing their friend's bright blue eyes in a little Asian boy's face) there was nothing I liked at all about Train.

Right about the Saw franchise, way over done. The first Wrong Turn with Eliza Dushku was good, cant speak for the sequel. Yeah the torture/rape movies are a little much to handle. I didn't think so for these simple reasons : He knew Salara's mother was blind and also he kept traveling west (how did he know which way to go?) maybe that is a bit ignorant of me but I would like to know if someone knows the answer?

He knew which way by feeling the direction of the sun on his face.

These are just guesses. Sometimes in the movie he certainly seems to be able to see, and then there are clues that he can't. They never come out and specifically say it one way or the other. My opinion is that he was blind, and the original script supports that, but I don't think there's a wrong answer.

I'll have to disagree. I think he was blind. A Guest from Roanoke thinks he might be able to see. You can't prove it either way, as the movie never comes out and says it one way or the other. Its left up to your own interpretation, so there's no wrong answer.

Never Let Me Go - falsely advertised as romantic drama, with unbelievable scenario overriding good performances.

Gnomeo and Juliet - funny British 3D CGI based on Shakespeare (who knew?) with great voice cast - James MacEvoy, Emily Blunt, Maggie Smith, Michael caine, Patrick Stewart, Jason Statham, Dolly Parton, Ozzy Osborne...

Paul - 2 Brits on US road trip play host to escaped alien. Very funny.

I watched this lame horror movie called Shrooms. Another film with American teenagers in a foreign country (this time Ireland, but a really backwoods part). The movie tries to inject some ambuguity by having the characters tripping on
mushrooms, so you're never suppose to know if everything is real or not, but it ends with an unoriginal and predictable twist. Fortunately it was pretty short, around ninety minutes, so I didn't waste too much of my life on it.

The American with George Clooney. This is an excellent movie but it was probably ruined for some people by it's trailer. The trailer portrays this as some kind of Bourne-like thriller and it is not that at all. I hate when I see one of these deceptive trailers and I'm are all amped up for one type of movie and I get a totally different one. It's a character study about a hit man type that is looking to get out of the business and wants a more normal life. There is a little shooting and a chase or two but it is not the thrill a minute ride the trailer makes it out to be. Good flick - just don't expect what you see in the trailer.

Motocop, when I was watching Frozen, the first thing I thought was make a clothes rope!!! It may break, sure, but it will get you a bit closer to the ground at the very least. You'll be cold getting down the mountain afterwards, but it's better than slowly freezing to death. Also, there were bungie cords holding the cushion to the ski lift (you can see them when the camera pans around). They aren't long enough to reach the ground of course, but again, they'll get you closer. Or...could one of the kids have used his skis, or a ski pole, to sort of zip line down the ski lift wire? This seems the most risky of my ideas, and they threw all that stuff away trying to get the attention of the plow driver, but it might be better than tearing your hands apart on the wire. And I've never heard of a wolf attack on a person in New England. I do know wolves kill people, and Dan was an easy target with his legs broken (yeah, that was gruesome), but the other people? I don't know. I did like the references to Jaws, though.

It's about a Nasa probe that crashes into Mexico on its return to earth, and carries alien life form. Kinjite, a Charles Bronson movie. This really gives Mandingo a run for it's money for the most offensive movie I've ever seen. Bronson really made some awful movies in the 80's and I think this was the last of that string.

There is a pretty hilarious error in this movie too. Bronson and his partner are hanging a guy over a balcony by his feet and accidentally drop him and he lands in the pool below. When they dropped him, he was a black man and when he was floating in the pool, he was a white man.

Hall Pass - disappointing. Jason Sudeikis' character was too stupid to have reached adulthood and still be alive, and Owen Wilson - guess what? - played Owen Wilson. Again. Both of which spoilt it for me.

Hereafter, directed by Clint Eastwood starring Matt Damon. Essentially three films in one, one of which is French with subtitles. Almost too difficult to watch the tsunami recreation in the beginning. An interesting look at people's drive to know what happens next. I have a theory about Damon's abilities: I don't think he was seeing the hereafter. I think he was reading the minds of his subjects and telling them the things they needed to hear about lost loved ones.

I caught most of "Blame it on Rio" the other day on cable. I have mixed feelings. Its a fun and sexy comedy but still a little creepy. That girl was only 17 when she made the film. Yet she's topless in every other scene. I'm no prude, but I'm not sure if that would be legal today? - Even if they shot outside the US. Anyway, its classic 80s cheese. Or is it?

I watched Cronos, an early Guillermo del Toro film, with Ron Pearlman as the bad guy. It was an interesting new take on vampires, and I always love Pearlman, but its pacing was slow, and I don't know if it was my connection or the way the movie was shot, but it seemed to be running around 30 frames per second or so (I don't think it was my internet, as everything else I watched looked fine). It gave any movement a jerky-quality that was distracting.

I finally got around to watching the original Wall Street starring Charlie Sheen (before he started "winning") and Michael Douglas. Great movie. Kind of lost me with all the technical dialogue, but I got the general idea of what they were saying.

Way of the Dragon starring Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. I'd never seen this one before and I thought it was pretty good. I recommend not watching the english-dubbed version. It's weird and distracting seeing Bruce Lee speaking english while the words don't match the movements of his mouth. The final duel at the end of the movie between Lee and Norris was amazing.

The original or the remake? The original is much better than the remake with Nicholas Cage, IMO.

Dog Day Afternoon, 12 Angry Men (original), and The Hill (this movie proves that Sean Connery could be a great actor outside of James Bond, IMO). Sidney Lumet was a fantastic director and I think these films are among his very best.

Watched the Other Guys. It was a decent comedy.

Re-watching the original Die Hard for the billionth time. By far one of the greatest action movies ever. What's impressed me so far on this re-watch is how intelligent the villains are. They aren't bumbling fools, and Bruce Willis is often forced to flee and retreated when confronted head-on by them.

Watched Cyrus last night. Thought that since Jonah Hill and John C Riley were in it, it would be hilarious...but not so much. Total indie film. Also watched The Haunting of Molly Hartley on Stars (unedited) and thought it was going to be more like Emily Rose but not even close. Molly had more false alarms in it (girl opens closet and cat jumps out type stuff) than a high school on April Fool's Day. Outside of one or two scenes w/Molly's mom, not a whole lot happened that was scary. On the brightside of things though, the new Pirates movie has zombies in it! So I got that going for me, which is nice.

I watched Survival of the Dead, the most-recent in the Romero series. By far my least favorite. It was laughable it was so bad. The majority of the film takes place on a little island off of Delaware, and yet the majority of its inhabitants had Irish accents. Really didn't make any sense.

We watched Devil last night. It was ok, I just wasn't very impressed with the "twist" at the end. Not much of a twist, for me. I was thinking the whole time that the cop was the devil, I was highly distracted by his hairline--he had a wicked widow's peak!

Saw this movie Miracle Beach--it's from the early nineties, about this loser that finds a genie lamp on the beach and turns his life around. The movie was terrible (my girlfriend was nostalgic about it--I'd never seen it before), but it surprised me that it probably could've gotten a PG rating, there's no violence or swearing in it, except for a ton of nudity. And apparently you get unlimited wishes, not three.

I recently picked up The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on blu-ray. Of course, the movie is great but on the blu-ray, the film has been restored and it looks fantastic. There was about 20 minutes of the movie cut out for the American release in 1966 and that has been added back in. There are a ton of extras too. This version of Clint is the closest thing you can get to Roland.

If you have a blu-ray player, there is this website I go to that reviews blu-rays. All the movies are reviewed and the quality of the blu-ray is reviewed as well. This site will tell you if you are getting a cheap transfer job or a spectacular blu-ray. I find it very useful if I'm looking to purchase a blu-ray movie.

Re-watched David Lynch's Lost Highway. Man, David Lynch can take the most ordinary thing and turn it into something frightening. Robert Blake (TV's Barretta) is absolutely chilling in this film with his deliverence of lines like 'We've met before.'!! Creepy, creepy, creepy role. Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette are great too. I love's me some David Lynch films!! Muholland Drive is a classic! I could watch that film over and over and never get bored with it. So many layers and nuances to it and so-o many interpretations as to what it really is about. Naomi Watts does an incredible job here. She deserved an Oscar for her part.

'Shadow of a Doubt' (1943) - film #4 in my home Hitchcock marathon ... I had high expectations for this one, but to tell you the truth, I really liked 'Rebecca' (1940) better. At times you would think you are watching a ghost story, but it's patent Hitchcock mystery all the way to the end. And Joan Fontaine is really outstanding. If you are one of those persons who are not turned off by older films, I highly recommend.

I watched quite a few movies over the weekend...

Gangs of New York - love Daniel Day Lewis as Bill the Butcher.

Robocop - Probably been twenty years since I watched this, and didn't remember anything about it. Was shocked by the level of violence. Robocop shoots some guy in the b**ls!

Return of the Living Dead - Classic. One of my favorite zombie movies of all time.

Maverick - Say what you will about Mel Gibson now, but he's extremely likable as Bret Maverick, and this is just a happy, funny, all-around enjoyable movie. I wish they made more popcorn films half as good as this.

The Bourne Identity - Perhaps the best action trilogy of all time?

Winter's Bone - Outstanding movie. A very dark and bleak tale (Anyone notice I seem to like dark and bleak movies?) that takes place in the Ozarks. It's about a 17 year old girl who because of a drug dealing father has all of the family responsibilities and has two young siblings to look out for. Meth dealing dad has a court date and has disappeared. He put up their house as part of his bond and the girl has to find him to keep from losing their house. Part detective story, part portrait of rural poverty. Highly recommended.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil - this is a documentary about the Canadian metal band Anvil. The documentary follows the band and Lips the singer as they try to scrounge for money to make their thirteenth album. Despite being heralded by their peers and being around for many years they never hit it big. In fact, it wasn't until this documentary was made that Anvil really got the attention they deserved. Very nice documentary. IMO. The moral of this story is that hard work, sacrifice, and persistence will get you what you deserve even if it takes twenty-five years.

127 Hours and it was breathtaking.
I don't understand why The Social Network won the Oscar for the best adapted new item because the two movies were competing and I think Danny Boyle made a way better job than David Fincher.
Well it was about this Aron Ralston story who got stuck under a rock while exploring Blue John Canyon and stayed like that 5 days before cutting his own arm to get released. I happened to have a bad impression about the movie before I saw it as I expected it to be quite boring : 1h30 of a man stuck under a rock, you'd better be good if you want to create suspense. Well, not only Boyle managed to do it, but he made something really brilliant, even more than Slumdog Millionaire was. It has this black comedy touch that we also find in Trainspotting and man, the tendon scene... I'd better not think about it !
Anyway, I recommend it, it's really worth it !

Metallica: Some Kind of Monster - another documentary and one that is worth watching if you are a hardcore fan or if you were wondering what went on in their freaking minds while they made the St. Anger album. This documentary proves that the lead guitarist Kirk Hammett is probably the only sane member of this band and the only one with any kind of humility or humor about himself.

After firing Jason Newstead, their bassist of fourteen years, the band brings in a psychiatrist to help them patch things up between themselves before they audition a new bassist.

Drummer Lars Ulrich and Vocalist/rhythm guitarist James Hetfield are the two huge egos that are the only real reason that a psychiatrist was even needed at all. They are the reason for all of the drama in Metallica and in this documentary. Both of them seriously need a kick in pants, if you ask me.

The interviews with Jason Newstead and Dave Mustaine (a former member of Metalllica and the founder and frontman for the metal band Megadeth) are an extra touch that I enjoyed.

All in all it is a good documentary about a band at its worst making their worst album.

Last night I watched "Mommie Dearest."

I still have doubts as to whether Joan Crawford was as much of a monster as her daughter Christina claimed, especially since her other two daughters--who conveniently aren't mentioned in the movie--claim to have had an enjoyable childhood. I think it's awful this woman did not have the opportunity to defend herself since the movie was made posthumously.

Either way, I love this movie. Faye Dunaway's portrayal of Crawford is extremely over the top, and camp at times. Okay, it's camp ALL the time, but she acts everybody--apart from "young" Christina--off the screen.

Yeh, I watched this with Dawnie (Sknut70) a few months back. I didn't hate it but definitely won't ever watch it again.

Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different - This was the first of the Python movies, but this is really just a "best of" Flying Circus. Says so on the DVD case. Although there are a few skits that I thought could have been put in the movie instead of others. I think The Meaning of Life (just my opinion :)) is a much better skit movie, but ANFSCD is pretty good. The Dead Parrot and the Dirty Fork are two of my favorite Python skits and I'm glad they are in the movie.

My dad laughed, but mom didn't think it was funny at all. She thought it was stupid. Oh, well.

My Cousin Vinny - funny movie. Joe Pesci may make fun of grits in this movie, but that is a forgivable sin. Marisa Tomei gives a great performance although I'm not sure I would call it Oscar-worthy. And Fred Gwynne is great as the judge.

This movie has some of the most unforgettable lines in it: 'No more wire hangers EVER!!' 'Christina, why must it always be a contest with you????' This movie was made by a first time director, if I'm remembering right, and it shows. It derailed Faye Dunaways career for quite a few years too as she was so over-the-top in it (director's fault, not the actress'). I won't say I love this movie, but if it's on TV I have to stop what I'm doing and watch it. Maybe Crawford wasn't such a horrible mother as portrayed in the book and movie, but you might want to check out just exactly why she had such an aversion to those pesky wire hangers....... and it might change your mind some.:oo:
