i watched Zodiac the other night with jake gyllenhal and robert downey jr. i really enjoyed it

Zodiac is a masterpices, IMO.

I`ve watched so many movies in the last two weeks or so that it would take me at least half an hour to list them all ( that`s what you can do when you are currently unemployed )...mostly newer ones and there isn`t one single movie that I can single out and say " wow, this was not too shabby at all ".

Well, last night I`ve watched

The Express - ( Dennis Quaid ) a pretty emotinal movie about a young football star

The Midnight Meat train ( Vinnie Jones ) - a very brutal horror flick base on Clive Barkers short story

and

War, Inc ( John Cusack, Marisa Tomei ) - a polital satire, pretty funny in some parts...

All three movies would get six stars out of 10, IMO.

Over the weekend, my kids watched Ratatouille for the first time. I fell in love with it! I don't know if it was the colors or the characters, but I actually watched it, from beginning to end, BY MYSELF, last night after everyone went to bed.

Saw Up last night. Was an awesome film! It kinda goes without saying though, since everything that Pixar has done has been awesome. Those guys can literally do no wrong when it comes to films. Wish I could have seen in 3D, but my friends didn't want to wait for the showing. Gonna go again this week and see it in 3D :-)

Drag Me To Hell....absolutely brilliant film. Very rare to find something that can make you laugh out loud and cringe at the same time but this movie manages it. 10 out of 10 from me:cool2:.

TERMINATOR 4 BIACHES!!!

BWA HA HA! I swear you could hear me sighing for the beauty in the theater, every time they showed a scene of what used to be L.A. It gives me chills now, just brushing upon the memory.

I LOVE the way they show the war. I didn't like the way Terminator 2 and Terminator 3 both just tried to untie a time paradox. FORGET THAT. If a paradox exists, RUN WITH IT! Don't try to figure it out, don't try to not be your own grandfather. Go with whatever works! Take for granted, that you're only some player in a story, ON EVERY PLANE OF EXISTENCE, and PLAY.

Oooooo, Kyle Reese was a KICKASS child. "Come with me if you want to live..." And seeing that Terminator stalking L.A., old and beat up, when the main character shouted at it, garnishing its attention... ooooOOOOooooOOOOOooooOOOOO...

And the female lead warrior! By the GODS I get tired of not having powerful female leads in these movies. Women make better warriors than men! Get one pissed at you, and you'll know it instantly. Not only that, but a female body was designed to take more pain than a males, because their bodies are designed for childbearing. I hate having to put in 'Resident Evil' or 'The Fifth Element', _just_ to see a hot chick kicking ass.

THIS MOVIE ROCKED!!! YAYYYYYYYY FOR OUTDOING MY EXPECTATIONS!!!

I never go to the theater really, but I might go again today, and then again, just to catch it a few more times.

I giggled my way through 'Starsky and Hutch' yesterday afternoon. I might slap in a horror movie of some sort today. Or perhaps, The Order. I've been wanting to draw Heath Ledger for a while and there are a couple of scenes in The Order where his face is absolutely beautiful. Who knows. I've got a bunch of DVD's that I haven't watched yet, but they are being reserved for movie nights with my man so I won't crack 'em open yet.

7 Pounds. Could have been a tad better scripted, but all-in-all I feel it was one of those rare things: an original premise. I am sure I could quickly be disproved of this notion, so I will say that it is simply the first of its kind that I have seen. A nice film, if your not dependent on action and gore to fulfill your movie going needs.

Saw Angels & Demons a couple nights ago, funny thing was I wached it on one of the free movie sites and I guess it was foriegn or something because when they would speak another language it would subtitle it in some other language I didn't know. Don't quite get that since the rest of the movie wasn't subtitled. But maybe it was somewhere that English is common enough but no one would speak Latin (I'm assuming thats what I was hearing) Anyway I didnt think I'd like it but I was glued to it beginning to end, Solid 9/10

Also watched the new Star Trek which being a 10 year old Trekkie back in 76 I really did not expect to like it at all. Was I surprised! I never warmed up to Kirk but the rest of them I really felt like it could have been the originals in their younger days. One thing that impressed me most about these young actors was their ability to get the little actions and movements that defined the original cast. You don't think about those things but when the new kirk comes into the bridge and slings himself in the captains chair it was done just like Shatner! And the new spock, I can not say enough good things about him!! Amazing! I look forward to the next one.

Another one I saw in the past couple weeks that I really liked although I don't think it got good reviews was Knowing with Nicholas Cage. I cant even say why it did but it left me with that sense of wonderment that the last time I remember getting was as a kid watching CE3K. When the movies over you just sit there for a moment and go "WOW"

Oh and I also watched "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" again :)

T4 again. ;)

And it's been a lonnnnnng time since I've even dragged myself to the theater. Other than the fact that they sold frosty mugs of Guiness there, you should never do a follow up movie in a crappy little theater, when the first time you saw it was on an amazing theater with stadium seating and above average DTS audio systems and extremely high-def video systems.

The movie was great though.

Oh, and I fell asleep watching 'The Toy' last night. I didn't make it up to the point Richard Priors character got his clothes all bit to shreds by the piranha and he ran across the water to get away. Hehe. But I did get to the point where Richard Priors character crashes the car in the living room with Master Bates, and he starts making all those loud hyper-ventilating noises at Berkley and the kid.

I watched A LOT of movies over the past few days (and it was awesome).

Stardust - starring Claire Danes, Michele Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro; not bad! Sort of predictable, but still very entertaining. I didn't think I'd like it, but I did. It's funny and lightly scary, with lots of characters, big names, and twists and turns.

Juno - starring Ellen Page, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman. AWESOME movie! Ellen Page is great.

Waitress - starring Keri Russell, Cheryl Hines, Andy Griffith. OK movie; good for a rainy day. It was definitely predictable, but I enjoyed it.

Smart People - starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid. Ellen Page was great in it (dark and brooding), but it was boring, and Quaid's character was too annoying.

The Hangover is one of the funniest movies I have ever watched. Period. Everyone needs to see it.

The new Terminator and it was pretty awesome as far as acting and effects go. Unfortunately it seemed to me that they were saving on screenplay and the ending was beyond farfetched.

That's a pity because I think the casting was great and I was really waiting for this movie for literally years now. So much wasted potential for a good story thrown away for the sake of cliches...

Saw "Pubic Enemies" this weekend. It was pretty damn good. Most importantly, it was a "real" movie. It think there was only one CGI shot in the whole thing.

Amazing Cinematography and Art Direction. -Anyone else love the giant flares at the airfield and at the end? So haunting. We haven't seen cinematography like that in ages.

PS: Does anyone remember my rant about "120 minutes and that's it." I was bitchin' about the length of modern movies. Public Enemies *was* a bit too long and needed some editting. But I still enjoyed the extra time. Thats saying something.

Sorry Srbo, I am not saying that she isn't beautiful, I just think she looks a bit like an alien.:eek2:

One of the reasons she's so beautiful is precisely because she doesn't look like everybody else. Kate Hudson is a good looking woman, but she looks like she was assembled at a factory specializing in Standard Issue Young Skinny Blonds. Or that Miley Cyrus person, granted she's underage, but there's no denying she's pretty...but she has such a generic pretty-teenage-girl appearance, that I can't even remember what she looks like five seconds after her face pops off the screen. But Angelina Jolie, you remember.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie with Anne Hathaway in it, but just from from what I've seen in commercials and movie posters, I've selected her to be my new bride after civilization collapses....Won't she be surprised!

'Storm of the Century'...quite a good flick, I liked the characters, the setting, music...I just have to say that I would leave out some scenes and I woud make a few changes in the script. BTW I could see Randall Flagg as the main eveil charachter, could you? I mean of course there would have to be a few changes in the script to adjust them to this guy but still..I wouldn't change the guys image (he is sooooo cooool) and that wouldn't be necessary (if you've read The Stand you know why) but I think he would have acted differently in some situations.
But after all it was a good movie...4 hours in a row that was something

I just watched a very obscure (and very good!) horror film from 2008, called "The Uninvited" (not to be confused with the more mainstream, 2009 horror movie of the same name). The ending was sadly weak, but the movie as a whole was extremely good. It scared me. The last movie to do that was probably "Children of the Corn," and/or "Halloween 3: Season of the Witch," due to my being a 'fraidy-cat 12-year old when they came out. Its presently available on IFC On Demand at Comcast (Pay-Per-View, alas).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0942904/

(I was only the 57th person to rate this fine film at IMDB, so almost no one's seen it, which is a shame)

I also watched a 1972 film, starring Gene Hackman (my favourite actor) and Lee Marvin, called "Prime Cut," which is about organized crime in rural Kansas, and touches on all sorts of interesting themes, such as cannibalism, sexual slavery, etc. Definitely worth seeing (downloaded it off the 'net).

ok just read the desription, and it seams that it isn't a remake of AToTS..but the cover (the one with the window) is definitely from the remake, so they have something wrong at the imdb

First Death Race It stars Jason Statham. Some kind of future prison film, but I'm all in for action when there's some hot driving going on (and I know it's all staged, but still), but I've seen better.

Then Friday the 13th Part 3 God, that was just horrible. Not even laughworthy horrible, just freaking waste of my time.

At last Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves As a child I've seen this film a thousand times, it was my Indiana Jones in some way. It was nice as sentiment, but I laughed a lot (most thx to the parody of Mel Brooks 'Men In Tights').

Cool but not as good as I thought it would be. Some scenes (like the shootout in the woods) look so crappy that you cant keep from wondering how they convinced Depp to stay in that flick..
But a good flick after

I last saw a 1996 film called "Hard Eight" (also apparently released as "Sydney"), which I quite enjoyed. Of course, I'm a big Philip Baker Hall fan (you may recall him as "Lt. Bookman" from arguably the single best episode of "Seinfeld" ever).

Just saw G Force with my eleven year olds yesterday. It was cute. The kids really liked it. I would not sit through it again though.

Saw Orphan recently - I thought it was worth paying to see. The end was a little long for me and I didn't like that a certain somebody died. The orphan (the little girl) was wickedly frightening though. I give it a thumbs up.

I just saw the 1932 Scarface movie with Paul Muni and Boris Karloff. I loved Brain De Palma's version, but this movie is almost just as good. Of course Paul Muni doesn't say the classic phrase, "Say hello to my little friend!" But this movie is great if you want to see how the 1983 version borrows from the older one. Not to mention you can watch this one with your kids. It's only PG. :)

This afternoon I watched 'An American Crime' and was heartbroken by it. It was devastating, at the end I couldn't stop crying.
I tend to symphatize easily and this sort of movie gets under my skin. I'm still not my usual self, still feel dazed by it. The fact that it is based on true events, doesn't help.

It has a great cast, with a wonderful performance of Ellen Page (Juno) and Catherine Keener (40year old virgin).
I highly recommend this movie. It makes you think twice before you close your eyes to something.

I caught the Lifetime version of this story as well and it was equally horrific. My mother suggested the movie to me and when I finished sobbing my way through it, I felt so conflicted! On the one hand, it was an extremely well-done movie but at the same time I was crying to her on the phone "Why did you make me watch this movie?!" Heartbreaking and tragic....but I agree...everyone should see this one....

Angels & Demons
This was entertaining, but there it also ended. It didn't leave any kind of impression afterwards, and the ending was kind of farfetched and I suspected him to be the one behind it from in the beginning. It wasn't a waste of time, but not worth a second time.

The last house on the left
I thought the beginning was good, the girls who are taken against their will, but as soon as the parents found out, the movie went haywire. I think they could of thought of less gory methods, but then it wouldn't be a slasher movie. And the final scene? WTF? No, also not a keeper.

Ah Natjen I really enjoyed Last House On the Left, retribution always goes down well with me though:wink2:.

The last two movies I watched at the cinema were Taking of Pelham 123...loved it, and Time Travellers Wife...another keeper in my book. I was surprised with Time Traveller as I thought it would have been very slushy (which usually makes me retch), yet it managed to steer away from attempting to just tug at the heart strings...and of course Eric Bana is a hottie, so BONUS!!

I enjoyed Pelham, yet the ending disappointed me. If I had written it then it would have went one of two ways...neither of which was the actual ending. Ah well, a girl can't always have everything her own way.

I liked it ... and that's a little surprising as adaptations of Stephen King books (with a few exceptions) usually don't work that well. IMHO (and it is humble as I have not seen all of the adaptations).

The film 1408 wasn't exactly like the story. Then again, I don't see how it could have been given the length of the film.

Guess, that's why it's based on the short story; and the story left plenty of room for interpretation.

John Cusack did a good job. The lamp in Samuel Jackson's office didn't look the way I thought it would... Lol

I've seen two movies over the weekend.
The first would be
An affair to remember
First time seeing it and I loved it so much. It's timeless.

The other is something quite different, something oldskool, taking me back to my childhood. I loved that movie then, and afraid that I might still like it today, although now the 'action scenes' really seemed ridiculous, but I'm a sucker for nostalgia. And before I forget I'm talking about The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick made in 1990.

I watched the movie "Inglorious Basterds." Didn't really care for it. The scene where they beat to death that Wehrmacht officer, because he won't betray the position of the other German patrol, is truly horrific. But my principal complaint is that the movie is just plain dull.

I also watched the made-for-t.v. version of "The Tommyknockers." I'm sure people here could have warned me off of doing so, but at least I wasn't disappointed; I didn't really expect it to be very good, but was hoping for a surprise. I wasn't surprised. The way they altered the last scene, from "warp speed," to an explosion, was extremely lame.

Geez-Louise, how could I have forgotten to mention I saw "District 9?" Very good movie, very unlike most other sci-fi movies. Much better than most, for that matter.

And anyone who didn't think that little alien boy was cute must be devoid of a soul. But not cute in a Disneyfied, "E.T." kind of way, but more like cute the way an actual human child can be.

The haunting in Connecticut.

And it was good. I'm a fan of haunted house movies, but have seen so many that I don't expect to be surprised. This movie did. It had a well developed sub plot with the illness of the boy and how the family copes with it.
When the visions started and it was known that he would be rejected a treatment when he had hallucinations, I had a tiny worry they eventually would walk the path so many had before: Someone seeing stuff, but afraid to tell anyone.
But to my surprise and delight it never went that way.

In the end I even cried. I've never cried with a haunted house movie before. :)
So I recommend it.

We watched 'Fast and Furious'- very good and in my opinion Vin Diesel makes every movie beautiful! The other one we watched is 'The Last House on the Left', it was a rough one to watch, especially if you have kids. Don't know if I'd recommend it or not.....:confused:

Over the weekend I watched "Jumper" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

Jumper was entertaining, even if it was really far-fetched. Samuel L. Jackson was his usual wide-eyed self (don't get me wrong...I love Samuel L.).

"Journey..." was a movie that indulged the kid in me; a fun, fantasy-type movie. Not something I'd watch twice, but it was never boring and had a great "Goonie-esque" type ending.

I went last nite and saw District 9. It was crazy! I really was'nt expecting the way it went and I also did'nt know that Peter Jackson directed. I would'nt recomend it if you don't like alien movies, these guys were up close and personal, and the main human character was so intense. I liked it for what it was.

Over the last few days I've watched:

Confessions of a Shopaholic - I really like Isla Fisher (even if I don't like her taste in men), but this movie was a stinker. Just watch a preview and you've seen all the funny stuff.

The Alphabet Killer - Another disappointing movie. Eliza Dushku is a favorite of mine; her role as Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was awesome, but I actually fast-forwarded to the end after about 40 minutes, it was so boring!

The Haunting in Connecticut (thanks for the great review NATHALIE!) - this was a great movie, and I too cried at the end. Nathalie gave a good review of it a few posts back; it's hard to explain it without revealing too much. Two thumbs up!

We saw District 9 at the beginning of the month and I have to say that it was depressing. I really enjoy Peter Jackson's movies but this one left me feeling just about the way I did after King Kong - I left the theatre wondering why I just spent $30 to feel like I got punched in the stomach.

By the way. I can't stop watching your avatar!

I've watched a couple of movies this last weekend.

The first if them was Blindness, of which I recently read the book. Well, again a case of the book being way better than the movie. The movie centered too much on the stylistic way of filming, and instead it should have focused on the plot, the decay of human society when worst comes to turn.

The next evening I watched District 9, and it was entertaining.. It isn't my favourite genre of film, but I did enjoy it. A refreshing film. And a main character, you have to feel respect for at the end.

The weekend's over and I've seen two films during it.

Grace which is a little disturbing movie about a woman and a pregnancy that's gone badly wrong. The whole atmosphere was eerie, not one I want to see again, but I think it's worth the watch, although the last five minutes were kind of unnecessary, much like the last scene in Last House On The Left.

The Unborn was the other I watched. Well tried to anyway. I turned it off after a good half hour, I just couldn't bear to waste any more time on that flick. Not good, and that's me being kind.

Seems like I saw two movies, related to child birth, must be a hormone thing. :cool2: I'm off to scare the husband

The Wrestler (2008) starring Mickey O'Rourke. It's Mickey O'Rourke like you've never seen him before all pumped up. This movie had a documentary feel to it and it tells the life of a professional wrestler. Behind the steroids, the meds, there is glory but also pain and isolation. It was Mickey O'Rourke at his best and he should have gotten the 2009 Oscar for this one. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Gran Torino (2008) Although I liked the curmudgeonly Korean War vet, Walt Kowalski portrayed by Clint Eastwood, this movie did not meet my expectations. There were scenes where I said to myself, "This isn't realistic." Some of the scenes in the beginning were over the top. I am still a huge fan of Eastwood and I had a good time watching it, but I've seen better Clint Eastwood movies. What was interesting about this movie is that most of the Hmong actors if not all were novices.

I've watched a bunch of movies lately, but the best ones to mention are.....

The Changeling with Angelina Jolie. I'm not a big fan of her movies, but I really enjoyed this one. It moved quickly and had a lot of surprises (though many were predictable). It had heartbreaking undertones, such sadness, but it's definitely a "must see."

Also, a classic, Night Shift with Henry Winkler. I've seen it a ton of times, and love it every time. The colors, the music...great, old movie.

Also saw 88 Minutes recently with Al Pacino. BORING! It tried so hard to not be predictable, that is was overly predictable, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pacino regrets making the film. He seemed a wreck physically, and the supporting cast brought him down (IMHO).

I agree, it was nice.

Something else that I liked about it - no one in that movie looked like they spent any more time in "make up" than I spend, on average, in getting ready to go somewhere. Thompson & Hoffman are not only two of my favorite actors, but they also look like the people I see every day.

I just watched "River's Edge" from 1986. The events of that movie occurred about ten miles north of here, in the town of Milpitas. I recall reading about them in the San Jose Mercury News, probably back in '84, but I never saw the movie until today. Its an OK film, but I'm not certain I'd generally recommend it, but I was curious to see the cinematic depiction of events that I recall from my younger days (while at the time, I was so sick & tired of hearing about those events on the local news broadcasts, that I thought the idea of watching the movie was absurd).

Adventureland.

This was a cute movie about a kid working the summer at a carnival after graduating college. I think it was advertised wrong--it was depicted as a comedy a la Superbad (it's by the same director), but really, its a coming of age romance with some comedy sprinkled throughout. Two of the stars are very likeable, awkward twenty-somethings. Three stars. It's rated R, but it's not very crude compared to other similarly rated comedies, and features a more mature storyline. Lou Reed is used heavily throughout, and that's always a good thing.

Kristen Stewart is the love interest in this movie, and I gotta admit, I developed a huge crush on her while watching this. I was so disappointed when my friend told me this weekend that she is the star of Twilight. What a shame. In two days that girl made me rediscover that I had a heart, and then she stabbed it with a stake...

How could you Kristen? How could you?

I saw the new movie Whip It directed by Drew Barrymore and I really liked it. Ellen Page did a wonderful job! It may have helped that there was a huge local crowd of girls from the Sick Town Derby Dames. This little theater that I went to serves beer and wine, so the roller derby girls got a little excited during the movie, which wasn't bad. It made the movie really authentic! ;)

Over the weekend I watched Away We Go with Maya Rudolph. It was an OK movie; the supporting actors made it IMO. There were some really hilarious parts, but I wouldn't watch it a second time.

Monday night I watched Seven Pounds starring Will Smith, and I loved it! Fantastic! I cried so hard after the last scene, and I'm really not sure why. It was a moving movie, and Rosario Dawson was incredible playing a person with congenitive heart failure. It was a sweet, sad, inspirational film, and I plan on watching it again.

Last night I watched 27 Dresses starring Catherine Heigl (sp?) as a "professional bridesmaid" and James Marsden (who I love from Enchanted) as a wedding/wedding party "reporter/journalist." I was not prepared to like this movie, but couldn't find anything else to watch. It was great! Funny, sad, irritating; there were even some laugh out loud moments. If you want you can read more reviews on IMDB, but in short.. The movie lacked credibility and may I add, Richard Gere and Diane Keaton kissing was awkward. You would expect more of two such veterans.
If you want a super romantic movie, which I have seen a couple of times, go see the Notebook. Same author, but much better. Actually the movie is better than the book, IMO, the book is way over the top.

The first was Crank 2: High voltage and again only one acronym come to mind.. WTF? Seriously, Jason Stetham, you disappoint me!

The second was Valkyrie. I've read a novel recently dealing with the same slice of history as portrayed in this movie and the book was a real struggle to get through, but worth the fight. Just watched Lifeforce, a 1985 film about space vampires. I remember watching it on my little black & white TV on a late night horror show (Dr. Madblood in Virginia Beach) and not quite getting it. Watching it again years later I now understand why...the head vampire chick (who is completely gorgeous, I mean, REALLY friggin gorgeous) walks around naked throughout most of the movie, so the edited for TV version lost most of its glue and charm. The creature FX were above par for their day.

Noah was the ultimate man....*sigh* Those little arrows he left for Allie to follow to her very own art studio. OK, I'm waxing a bit too much here...*sigh*

"I am no one special. Just a common man with common thoughts. I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but in one respect I've succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived. I've loved another with all my heart and soul and for me that has always been enough...She had come back into his life like a sudden flame; blazing and streaming into his heart. Yesterday, I watched 1974's "The Parallax View" (starring Warren Beatty, and several people we've all seen in small parts in other films, without ever picking up on their names, in most cases) which is a political thriller I hadn't seen since about 1980, when I was too young to really understand it, but I always intended to watch it again when I got older, and yesterday, I finally did. And I'd say its very good; definitely still worth watching, 35 years after it came out. In some ways, it seems just as relevant today as then, if not possibly more so. Of course, these days, the quality of political leadership is so low, that there's no one they need to shoot, but if such a person should ever again emerge....

On a vaguely related note, I also saw "Taxi Driver" about two weeks ago, which is definitely one of my all-time favourite films.

I watched Zomieland the other day. I had a blast watching it. The four leads were pretty good, especially Woody Harrelson. :cool2: I loved the Bill Murray cameo.

I admit it. I sat down and watched Princess Bride with my niece. I still laugh like crazy at this movie.

"Inconceivable!!"

This weekend I tried to watch the Postman and quit two hours in.
Also saw Takashi Miike's Visitor Q -- anyone seen it?
Also watched a Japanese movie, recent release, called Lalapipo (Lotta People) ... it was alright, kind of funny...

Anyone have any good movie recommendations next?
