Just for fun, I would like to invite the forum members to come up with ideas regarding what they would delete from this world if they had their own "Word Processor Of The Gods" :grinning:

Hmmmmm... Well... Having a Christian base, I think everything in the world was made for us to use, including hatred, child molestation, poison ivy, and totally gay guys who dress like sailors.
I'm pretty morbid, and I like dark humor, so I wouldn't want to just delete, say, golddigging from the universe. Regardless of how suicidally sad enjoying someone just for what money they might have is.
I'd create with the processor. I'd unleash magic, and give it to the right souls, to be in charge of all that greed and hatred and abuse in the world. Leave the ****. Just properly train some cleaners. And make 'em really fun cats to be around, too. ;)

Well I'm not sure how much 'fun' it will be cause we will all be thinking of bad things but if I could remove one thing it would be sexual abuse and exploitation of children in all it's forms. As a species I think this is our greatest shame.
Oh and Alanis Morriset

Agree with Danivan (exccept the Alanis bit!), but I would also add cruelty to animals - hear that, Mr King??? Let the dogs in your stories have a nice, happy ending for a change!!

Hi,
What everybody else said.
I'm against anything that isn't socially acceptable, and even some things that are.

i'd take away the desire to do evil. no longer an option. we are stardust. we are golden. and we've got to get ourselves. back to the garden. and we all lived happily ever after?

That one is pretty hard. Would I delete bad things, risking that good things will lose their power in their absence? Will I take away wanting, knowing that without it there will be no progress, fear knowing that without it there may be no outstanding courage, or loss, knowing that without it nothing will make our golden moments so precious?
For myself, I would delete death, but not because I wish to go on enjoying life. It is just my one desire to hear the story out.

I'd get rid of Dr. phil, Matt Lauer, Bob Saget, and Stephanie Meyer. and all Twilight books and such. And world hunger and global warming and sexual abuse and all that stuff.
And STDs...

I wouldn't. I couldn't. Who knows what I could screw up, even operating with the purest of intentions, even picking the one thing I think the world couldn't possibly need, the one thing we'd all be better off without... suppose I made a mistake?
Or worse, suppose I decided I really liked having the control? Suppose I started coming up with other things the world didn't need?
I got bullied a lot when I was young...
Suppose I started deleting people?
Constantly Reading,

I would delete Poison, Motley Crue, Ratt, and all of the other cross dressing hair bands of the 80's. For some reason these bands just annoy the bejeesus out of me!:biggrin2:

I'd get rid of people who can't spell Stephenie Meyer's name correctly.
That, and the ability to judge things without possessing actual knowledge of them.
Also, spiders.

Highly addictive street drugs like Ice, Ecstacy, Heroin ..... gone

I agree with what someone else said, about not knowing what your deleting might cause. It could start a chain reaction that might suck the world into a black hole or something. Getting rid of crime and disease sounds good in theory, but can you imagine how over populated the earth would be if no one ever got murdered in wars or died of diseases? I know its a terrible thing to say but think about how bad world hunger would get then. It like that terrible movie with Ashton Kutcher, the Butterfly Effect. One deletion leads to the increase of something else bad. Unless it deletes Ashton Kutcher, then I guess its worth it.

Assuming that deleting something would not change the course of things, I'd like to get rid of hatred and intolerance. I would then insert kindness and understanding and the ability to embrace differences. Oh, and I'd love to delete Twitter and the media's love of creating cutsy couple names like "Brangelina" and such.

I would delete any chain reaction resulting from the deletion of crime and disease and murder and wars and world hunger and Ashton Kutcher. No wait...

Yeah then its like the pie equation. A never ending spiral of bizarro Ashtons, who seek out and marry all the older women of the world and all the channels on tv would play 70s show reruns. See, word processor just ended out race as intelligent beings.

The thing that bugged me about the story is how much unexplored potential it had. Seems quite evident to me that the typewriter did more then just delete things or else it wouldn't of brought back his umm, ex-wifes picture on the wall. Unless that only happened because it preexisted, yet there is no saying if that is the case since the damned machine broke down before he got anywhere near creative with it!
Anyways I would probably delete all but 10,000 and all the garbage we've created in terms industrial history, rid us of our worse impulses, write in a Utopian society in which our most despicable of habits have been weeded out and we share an egalitarian balance with the nature we are a part of.

I would very quickly type "Ghaddafi". And then I guess thousands of people would disappear because the name probably is not unique. Thatīt the problem with power - you need information and intelligence to use it :smile2:

Hey All,
It's been awhile since I have heard about this short story; but wasn't it in Tales From the Darkside. I need 2 read Skeleton Crew again, the last time I remember reading this collection of stories was back in the late 80's when I was in High School. Do any of U read his collection of short stories again after so many years? I do if I think it's a good story :smile2:.

I would get carried away and delete far too much. There are really a lot of things wrong in the world in this day and age.
I would insert a real Jurassic Park and make it affordable for everyone.

What if you delete parts of the machine that does the deleting? Does it explode? What if you deleted death? How many people would be in the world today?
